ticking nosie

after my 22r has been run for a while and is warm it makes a ticking noise. sounds like its coming from the front of the motor.
is this just a valve noise?
should i adjust the valves or is it just a normal noise ?

Just be sure it isn't a fuel injector making the ticking. This was my case in my rig. I though for sure it was a valve, but I was wrong.

Where's your oil level at? When was the last time the valves were adjusted?

It could be the valves, but it could also be the timing chain. Does the noise get worse or go away upon acceleration? If the timing chain has broken through a guide it will hit the timing cover also producing a noise.

Generally the timing chain only makes noise upon start up (or in the above scenario), but can also make noise sitting at idle like at a stop light or something. That's from slack in the chain due to age. It doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong, though. It may be just fine....as in the guides are still intact. Mine was doing that (the timing chain), but went away once I adjusted the valves....and so did any valve noise.
