Thrust Washer / Shim Kit?

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some various sized thrust washers or a shim kit for my 4cyl 3rds? Tired of the yoter sitting in the garage up on jack stands taking up space, with my aussie lockers install still half way done after a month now... Stealership round here very unhelpful and gave me some bs that they'll have to be boated from japan, so I'd just as soon order them online or what have you.

Tried using the the stock ones, but I only got .002" whereas it calls for .006~.020" of tolerance. So anyhow, where can I get some thrust washers?

Speak to Zuk or go to his website at www.gearinstalls.com.

The side gear thrust washers would either be a dealer item, or you'll have to find some used ones and measure them up.

SwampThing 01-01-2009 03:44 PM

Yeah, I know they're supposedly a dealer only item, but I REALLY don't wanna wait another month or two to be boated from japan. The stock ones I have are .068", so I would need a shim between .064-.050", though Ideally I'd prefer to have about .010" of clearance, so a .060" shim would probably be perfect.

A machine shop with a magnetic chuck can grind it thinner for you.

SwampThing 01-01-2009 03:46 PM

Though actually, come to think of it, I do have a friend that left for japan yesterday to go shopping for parts for his EVO, so if anyone happens to know the part numbers for those thrust washers, I could probably have him pick them up and bring them back to me before the week ends...

I'd probably do that, had I not given one of the shims to my buddy to take to a tranny shop to look for something similar, then loose it...

BigBluePile 01-01-2009 04:14 PM

Have you harrased all the local auto shops for parts?

abecedarian 01-01-2009 04:41 PM

I agree with BBP- harrass the local shops... after a few drinks. :)

BigBluePile 01-01-2009 04:47 PM

Seriously, though. I know I always ask for everything back from gears/engine/trans build from the mechanics and sometimes they just give me stuff because they have tons of it laying around.

abecedarian 01-01-2009 05:00 PM

I always give people crap because I have tonnes (for our metric friends) of it laying around too.

 ... nevermind.

Shush, Abe.....save your "crap" for our metric friends......:hillbill:

okies...
where's Canadia? ... guess I got something for them Canadians.

umm... wait...

I already said 'nevermind'

SwampThing 01-01-2009 05:42 PM

Well I've asked a couple friends who own offroad shops, they don't have any. I've asked my buddy who owns a gear shop, he doesn't have any. I've asked 4wheelparts, they don't have any. I've asked the toyota dealership, they don't have any. Running out of local places to try...

I still got a tranny shop to hassle, but it's a matter of finding time off of work during their operating hours to check it out. Hard to do when I'm out of town 4 days a week...

It's like some giant conspiracy to keep me from getting my lockers installed. I just KNEW I shoulda lincoln locked em like I always did before...

a4runnerfreak 01-01-2009 06:35 PM

Then get to welding, and send me your lockers. Easily a done deal.

BigBluePile 01-01-2009 06:41 PM

oh oh!! Can I have one!!!

a4runnerfreak 01-01-2009 07:00 PM

When I'm done with them, yes you can.

I like the grinding idea. That makes the most sense to me.
