Those who have pulled a 3VZE -

I am pulling the short block with auto trans attached on Thursday. That part does not look hard at all.

Question is this:

Who has tried squeezing a long block with headers into a 4Runner? I saw Snapon's post and he did it with the driver header on and said it would be no problem to do it with both attached -- Who has done it?

Katie

Trying to stab it in with headers is a big pain in the butt.

Put them on in the truck.

is it your opinion that there is plenty of wiggle room to get them lined up that way?

well, i wasnt going to pull either, but logic got the better of me and for about $250 in parts I can recuild the bottom end while its open. I figure its a good chance to look over the tranny as well(probably a new filter and a temp sender at a minimum) because the truck is new to me --

honestly its only the 4 tranny mount bolts, 4 tranny x-member bolts, 4 driveshaft bolts, and the couple wiring plugs on the tranny... Oh yea and the cooler lines -- Takes an extra 20 minutes and you dont have to dick with the motor to trans bolts or the starter

and that is how the FSM recommends to do it.

First, looks like you have a 2WD? So its automatic. Since you dont have any 4wd stuff to worry about, just attach the headers and drop it in. Its compact enough that you couild even leave the trans bolted to it, tho either way would work. Just go really slow, take your time, and have someone help.

Trying to put the headers on while the engine is in is difficult as well, so its really a moot point.

I plan to put the short block with heads and lower intake on it back in -- I was hoping to be able to bolt the headers on outside the truck but that might not happen pending everyones advice.

put the passenger one on with the motor out. Then put the motor in the truck...The drivers one goes in REAL easy with the motor in. The passenger side header is a B#$ch with the motor in the truck... I've done it twice with 2 different header sets now, and it doesnt get any easier the second time...

if i had to do again i would put the pass on, slide it half in place, then put the drivers side on while it was still super easy to get to.

You reallllllly want to do the pass side first to deal with all the emissons crap on that side. I spent WAY to many hrs f*&king around with EGR and reed valve.

btw you did see my pics right?
