test pipe?

I believe i've got a bit of a restriction in the exhaust, i saw on ebay where they are selling a pipe to put in place of the catalytic converter. i live out in the sticks and there are no emissions testing around here so please spare me treehuggers i guess my question is are there gonna be any drawbacks to this like a check engine light coming on or anything? thanks..

Some people actually lose power by removing the cat. You need some back pressure. If you add some extra intake pressure that requires the extra exhaust , removing all that back pressure back might be good.
It's easy to tell of your cat is clogged. Take it off (grinder to remove bolts, buy some stainless to replace) and if you cant see through the grid, replace it. If it's not your cat, then something else IS wrong like your egr system, or whatever that does need ot be fixed.

Sorry, gonna say that adding to the polution is not something to ignore even if you live in the sticks, we all gota breathe the same air.

couldn't agree more! :great:
that thought process is what makes the (admittedly quaint) notion of corporate "self-regulation" completely worthless. sorry to dive in with the "treehugger" rant. mea culpa.

with regards to the original question: i just put in a new magnaflow free-flow cat and muffler and they're great. $110 in parts for both. ebay it up. good luck.

whats worst at air polution a diesel or a toyota

trythis Feb 9, 2006 06:39 PM

how about a diesel toyota? Actually, I used to work at UPS as a (total thread hijack) car wash, which meant I put gas and diesel in the trucks, for some reason. Not having some way to recaputre the extra gas/diesel fumes, while filling the tank was far worse than driving a car. Gads, I smelled like diesel for weeks after I quit.... Diesel trucks that arent moving, that's my answer. poor thread, ruined.
