temperature sender in toyota truck 86
 

I have a question, I'm sending you some photos to help you understand my question. I have put a number to each point I refer to.
it's a toyota truck 1986, 4W. 22RE Engine.
To illustrate it better I have taken the photos of our friend RAD4Runner, since I do not have my truck here with me to take pictures. so the merit of the photos is for RAD4Runner. but my engine is the same. Thanks friend, I hope you do not bother.
I bought this pickup in these conditions, it was originally turbo, but it no longer has the turbo system. I do not know who modified it, but now it's a 22RE without turbo. However, I believe they kept their own accessories for a turbo engine, for example that water hose with two sensors. But I do not know which point of the ECU should be connected, (talking about NO 3).

I'm confused because in the engine of my toyota 86 has several sensors related to water temperature

.- Water thermo sensor ECU temp THW (next to injector timer switch, CSI TIMER)
I already have it connected. There is no problem with this.

SENSOR INDICATED WITH NUMBER 4. My motor has a cable with blue connector connected, does this sensor also check temperature?

Connector for coolant thermoswitch on top of t-stat housing.

Sensor #4 is the coolant temperature sender for the gauge.

The gauge and ECU use different coolant temperature sensors.

Good job showing us what you are working with!
However, please put model-year-engine-transmission-trim on your signature.

My 22RE/stick does not have sensor 3.
I think it's for the turbo? or maybe auto trans?

What engine and transmission do you have in your 1986 truck? Does this engine have a turbo?

Maybe you can post some pictures of your engine's sensors so we can minimize confusion.

The picture above is RAD4Runner's engine.

If I am not mistaken, it looks like there is only one sensor (thermo-switch really) in the picture, which is #3.

#2 looks to be the connector for #3 and is just disconnected in this picture.

Do you have another sensor in the thermostat housing? If so, can you post up a picture?

On select models (22R-TE, towing package, automatic transmission and 4 wheel drive), there is two sensors (thermo-switches) in the thermostat housing. One is the water temp switch ( #3 - coolant thermo-switch in the picture above) which should be on 4WD models and another is the much less common Air Conditioning cut-off switch (on select models) that cuts off the Air Conditioning compressor if the coolant exceeds a certain temperature (101°C or 213°F).

The round plug goes on the round sensor. It doesn't matter which hole its in of the two if you have the two hole thermostat housing that bit is not relevant.

If you have two sensors here the shorter sensor is attached to the body harness by a single wire ran all by itself, and is the AC cut off.

Number 2 connects to number three and as indicated in the photo is the TSW pin at the ECU.

That TSW is a single-wire, meaning it takes ground from the mounting thread. I refurbishing my connector and some markings on sender here:

Friend is not a photo of my truck, since I made this post from my office and my truck was not close to take pictures. But my truck has the same sensors.

There are three different style thermostat housings in this thread.

One has no ports (#4 question, showing gauge sender/sensor), one has a single port (Rad4Runner's, single port with plug disconnected), and another has two ports (Mine, AC cut off in the front, temperature switch in the rear).

Which do you have, how many places to put sensors on the thermostat?

Do you not have the round plug?

Do you not have a wire missing a plug?

Are you intending to run a new wire from the sensor to the ECU?
