temperature overshoot?
alright i have a freshly rebuilt 22re that i have noticed has a spike in the temp gauge on a cold startup. the gauge goes up above the 1/2 way mark almost to 3/4 before the red for about 15-20 seconds and then drops back to about 1/3. i have read the temp overshoot articles on 4crawler but im not sure if this is what i am experiencing. it does this every time on start up and not just when i use the heater. i have replaced the thermostat with a new one from toyota but it wasnt the 2 stage one. im guessing this is my problem but what else could it be? the last thing i want to do is cook my new engine.

that is the overshooting on 4crawlers page that your experiencing. I get that too wether the heat is on or not. I had a 2 stage thermo before and it didnt do it but when i replaced that thermo with a new one that wasnt 2 stage it started doing what you describe. If it bothers you get a 2 stage.. if not then dont worry about it as it wont harm anything
