What gearing in the axles?

Melrose 4r 01-19-2019 03:35 AM

Timing, vac leak, clogged cat, burnt exhaust valve, egr sticking open, obstructed intake, just off the top of my head.
what have you tried? What was the last thing done to it?
try a compression test to gauge the general health of the engine.
Its not the tires. Mine with 32s would pull uphill at 65 accelerating in third with not great compression numbers.

Haven't done anything yet was looking for pointers where to start

Hillbilly1216 01-19-2019 05:04 AM

Melrose not sure what has been done to it as far as the things you listed I just got the truck had the trans rebuilt now this trying to get the kinks worked out

If you just got this truck, I would start out by doing some maintenance to get a baseline.

Is the "Check Engine" light on?

First, to see where the health of the engine is, I would do a compression test and also check the ignition timing. Checking for vacuum leaks is a good idea too. Is the air intake boot cracked?

If the spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires, air filter and fuel filter are in poor or unknown condition, I would check and replace those as necessary.

First, 50 mph on 33's is more like 60mph. (About 57 mph if my speed app is anywhere near correct):great:

I'm running mine on 33's with the factory 4.11 diffs. To hold 65 uphill I usually have to twist it around 3grand in 4th.
5th is useless unless going flat land, down hill, or putting around on back roads.

I know that when I put the Catalytic Converter back on my truck it definitely hurt power. A lot.
I would check timing too (as stated before) and for anything that would cause it to run lean (Vacuum leaks, etc)

You are looking at what, 115-120 HP out of a stock 22RE In really good shape? Probably more like 100 out of one with some miles on it.
It's never going to like hills on anything over a stock tire size.

Embrace the slow.
It's the way of the 22RE.
