swapped motor and now it runs like crap
i blew up a 22RE and swapped it for another one, now it feels like the timing is off. it will run, but it won't run for crap, its got a miss and if you try to accelerate quickly it seems like it wants to stall out and misses, its fine if you just ease into the throttle though.
anyone else have this same problem? |
Clogged injectors???
|
i don't think so, i swapped everything over from my other motor.

Ya, I agree. Just because you put another motor in dosn't meen that the injectors are clean.
even if they are the same injectors from the other motor? i went from a EFI motor to a carbed motor with EFI on it. |
Did you set the timing on the new motor?

i did the EFI install myself, the truck came with EFI so it was just a matter of bolting stuff on cam timing was set so that the notch on the cam sprocket was pointed stright up while the motor wast at TDC |
Without looking at the engine, this is just speculation, but it sounds like your distributor advance is not working. I would check that by looking at the timing marks with a timing light as you give it some throttle. It is easy to misconnect or forget wire and vaccum hoses during an engine install, and that may be the problem.
Godd luck. |
so if the vaccume lines we're a complete mess (like they are) it would do this?
|
Maybe. The distributor is not advanced via vaccum, but the ECU is reading vaccum when it commands the distributor to advance.
I would study the vaccum line diagram in the FSM on the sticky and make sure you have everything connected to the proper place. |
okay, i'll throw it together within the next couple days and hopefully it gets better, thanks guys.
|
problem solved.
22RE is a vacume nightmare. is it normal for these motor to have alot of top end rattle? like a loud ticking noise |
yeah, the 22re is a noisy one. and yes it is a vacuum nightmare. especially with the cali ones.

loud enough to hear inside the cab with the hood off? |
yes id say so. my old 22re was LOUD
|
Glad you got the engine running. You notice I advised study, not read the vaccum diagram, it is a complicated system.
It would not hurt to adjust the valves. The valve train is pretty noisy though. |
valve lash was set at .010 as per the cam card says.
i'll try to get a video of the sound while i'm replacing the leaky radiator tomorrow |
