Stuck Calliper Replacement question.
Hey guys and gals....
Had a stuck brake calliper, front left on my 94 SR5 4Runner, and was wondering if i bled it properly. The calliper is on just fine, i'm wondering if i did the bleed procedure the right way. After the new caliper was put on, i pumped the brakes about 10 times, held it to the floor and my buddy un-did the bleed valve....let it bleed some fluid then tightend it. We repeated that about 3 times and then done. Now, my calliper was partially siezed, or siezeed before, and my brakes were very tight.... but after the new one has been put on the peddle feels soft untill i get to almost halfway to the floor. I'm wondering should the peddle be super tight after a brake job "Very little peddle travel before it feels tight" ? My pads on the front brakes are about 70% worn. |
um there's probably still air in the lines. try doing that again but keep going till you dont see bubbles in the line or fluid when its draining. it can take a few times.

Yes, I think so too. You still have air in the system. Try bleeding all 4 wheels until no bubbles are in the line,and make sure the rears are adjusted up to specs to obtain good pedal feel.

im a brake tech at a front end shop. just to point that out. a soft pedal at the top is usually the rear being out of adjustment, i would also reccomend a flush depending on how the fluid looks and how old it is. also did you replace the calipers? they might be out of spec and need to be replaced.
if the caliper is new and the wheel feels "frozen" that could be a brake hose, check the hoses to make sure theres no cracks, bulges or tears. sometimes the hose can callopse and cause a stuck caliper. next step after that would be the master cylinder, usually a bad master will only cause a soft pedal, but have been known to lock up a wheel. when you open the bleeder with no pedal pressure does the wheel move easier? if so its not the caliper, that would be the line or something else. hope i helped. |
And don't forget to bleed the lspv also (it's the valve above the rear axle with the arm that comes down to the axle).
