had my head in the machine after i thought the headgasket was gone they found out it was a gasket on the back of the head think it has ports for the exhaust and coolent so the coolent was leaking inot the exhaust.anyway it was there for about 3 weeks just to check the head over finally got it back today. i wont bring anything else there. i went to put the piece and gasket back on the head and one of the bolts was kind of striped looking and found out the hole was striped too. it would have had to been them that stripped it cause i never took that piece of.anyway i really dont wanna take it back there and wait another month for it, but can you tap these holes out? if so i will get it done at work but if you cant i'm gonna have to try and get them to replace my head.

Easy fix. Yes, just drill it out and stick a helicoil in it of the same size as the factory bolt.

 

can u just drill it out with a regular drill and bit to stick the helicoil in ? or do u need a special bit?

 

Not sure what size you need but the M8 use 21/64 drill bit and the M10 use 13/32 drill bit you also need a tool for the helicoils , may be able to make one.

 

In the US, you can get a kit that comes with inserts, insert tool, and matching drill bit. Don't know about CA, but even still........when you buy helicoils, the packaging should tell you what size bit. Not a special bit, either. Just a regular one of appropriate size. Do drill slowly, though. Aluminum is soft and doesn't need much pressure.

What's nice about helicoils is the inserts are steel. Much stronger than aluminum threads and less susceptible to cross threading. I'll put heli's in all my exhaust manifold holes next time I have it apart. But, that shouldn't be for a long time.
