strange leak around thermostat area? block leak?
i have a water leak near the thermostat housing, i thought it was the thermostat housing leaking but after looking it over well its not the thermo cover.
i need to know if the small hole in the pic is a possible leak point, i could see water coming out from this area but im not sure if its from the hole or above or behind it.
hard to see in there when the thermo cover is on the truck.
pics below show what im talking about, has anyone else had a leak like this before? i thought it may be the water pump gasket but not sure about that either.

What you have circled there is called the water pump weap hole. When the pump shaft seal fails the coolant runs out there first, instead of onto the timing belt. Which would ruin it. There's no way to replace the pump shaft seal. Which means...
New water pump time! And that means the timing belt is coming off any way, with a buch of other things too.
Have fun!

just had the timing belt replaced with the water pump 4 years ago but im sure its the rust in the pump and system that has done this.
thanks for the info! i wont be replacing the pump myself though not worth the stress lol.

When you have the water pump replaced use an OEM replacement, it will last longer than four years. Also taking better care of your cooling system will go a long way in making the water pump and head gaskets last on a 3.0.
