Stock height coil springs
 

I searched around but couldn't find much on this. I have a bit of uneven sag in the rear of my 4runner, and I want to replace the coil springs. I'm not looking to go higher than stock. I like stock height and 31's.

Anyone out there have any experience with aftermarket stock-height springs? Rock auto has a few brands - Moog, Raybestos, Ac Delco. All for around $70 a pair, which seems great compared to the Toyota springs at $200 a pair.

Maybe there's a custom spring out there? (The ZUK mod springs off ebay come to mind if I could find the right length and rate)

When I go into the backcountry it's usually the desert, 4 people in the truck, backpacking gear, plus 12-15 gallons of water, so upgrading to a little more load capacity would be fine.

So a little more digging around and it appears the Moog coils are a bit stiffer than the factory springs. Can anyone confirm?

If anyone knows of a spring that offers a 1" lift I would consider that too... Can't seem to find anything though. OME seems to be the smallest lift coil but that's more lift than I want.

Well, I went ahead and picked up the Moog CC255 "Cargo Coils." Definitely heavier than the stock springs, and although they are shorter, they are a higher spring rate. Here's the pic after the install (sorry no before shot) Truck rides perfectly level as measured from the ends of the rocker panels. This is actually a slight incline too, so I think on flat ground the rear will come up a touch.

Install was super easy, disconnect sway bar, shocks, brake hardlines, and the parking brake brackets right by the wheels. Had a buddy stand on the brake drum and banged the old coils right out. 2 hours work tops.

FYI this is sitting on 31s. Plenty of room and I don't have the torsions cranked really at all. The tops of the front rims are 13.5" from the fender.

I'd like to see pics of it on level ground. The rear end sag drives me nuts on these runners.

I'll snap more pics tomorrow. You probably already know this but the rear wheel well is lower than the front, so even when level the back looks a bit lower. I just want the truck level though... I don't like the way the truck is raked out if the wheel well gaps are the same.

Anyway I picked up some daystar 1.25" spacers in case these didn't lift enough but I think its okay.

Yeah, funny design of the wells but a nice level look would be a great improvement. Yours is looking good! I wish mine was half as clean as yours but it was a cheap rusty 4x4 ha.

thanks! i won't tell you how little i paid cuz you'll cry... it needed the timing chain done when i bought it so i got the thing wicked cheap! one day of work and now i have a nice runner. probly the least rusty toyota i've ever had (this is mini-truck #7 for me...), even though it still has one little spot on the back quarter panel. and you almost never see a 2nd gen with a 22re so i was pretty stoked to find it.

i think you you just want to go back to stock the Moogs are the way to go. 70 bucks for a pair. i'm not sure but i think most of the parts stores sell these rebranded, since they all have a "cc255" in the part number somewhere.

Mine was 500$ ha, so if yours was that low, yeah, great buy. Mine was good for what it is, a 4x4 to allow my mustang and caddy to rest comfortably in the garage all winter haha.

Not quite that cheap! Add a grand to your price... Definitely a steal, at least out here in Colorado. This truck would be 2500-3000 without engine work needed.

I ran a set of the Moog's on my stock 95 4r for several years. They were a great improvement over the stock saggies, they are stiffer which seemed to help with body roll, and settled in to be about an inch or so over stock height.

How have those coils been working out over this long time? And what is your rim to fender height? And size wheel? I've been debating over this and ome, these are cheaper and won't need anything else. And I don't think I'll be going up to 33's any time soon
