steering question
so 2 weeks ago i noticed my power steering fluid was low (the obnoxious whinning noise) so i decided to flush the system and replace it all with Lucas Oil Power Steering Fluid, which i have Lucas Oil in most everyother place in my truck, so i said why not.
anyways, while i was in moab this last weekend, i noticed a noise coming from the steering system. i narrowed it down, and it seemed to be coming from right behind the actual steering wheel. its not a whining noise like the power steering is low on fluid or anything but more of a clanking, clunking sound coming from what i believe right behind the steering wheel. any hints on what this might be?? |
no takers huh??

Dude, start shopping for a PS pump. Ours take ATF with Dexron - it's been my experience that the second you put actual PS fluid in it, your days are numbered.
As for your mystery sound, sorry - no help. Kinda hard to diagnose those things on the internet ... can you post a clip of it making the sound? Does it do it whenever you turn (always) or only sometimes? When you hit bumps, or just on normal road? |
tc: the mystery sound has actually gone away for the day, so i cant record it, maybe it will be back tomorrow. it seems to do it whenever i turn the wheel a bit, and whether im on normal road or hitting bumps it will do it.
