Standalone install 1990 4runner 4x4 turbo 22re
This project has been parked for years and last winter I reclaimed it from an under performing shop charging me up the wazoo. So in the interest of budget I had to give up the Emtron ecu to get the truck back. I have a new ecu from Baldur Gislasson out of Iceland. I know I have a lot of reading to do and this project is competing for time. The aim here is to strip out what I can from the harnesses that is not needed. I'll post pics when I have more time. Engine harnes is hacked up presently by said shop.
Will be running LS coils, seq injection, (36-1 crank trigger, dizzy for cam sensor), small KKK turbo, really nothing fancy, washer fluid injection up in the air as I have a a/a intercooler.
First question regarding an auto to 5spd conversion I had another shop do- and since I have the dash off for replacement, would it be worth the $100 to source a manual dash harness with all correct plugs for clutch pedal, clutchless start button, no auto related plugs- or are the harness's the same? After the truck is running it has to get a full safety so all has to be good, but no need for any emissions.

If I had a shop do an auto to manual conversion.. I would expect they made the starter safety system work as intended, clutch switch tied to nss (gives same function). I wouldn't be concerned about the clutch bypass, pretty limited usage I don't tend to stall and need to crawl over hills ect with the starter..
Worth it, meh?.. You get the bypass button and I'm not aware of any other benefits. That's not worth it to me to change over. The usual bench mark of "worth the effort" is "what is your time worth, can you spend money to save time, are you willing to do the work for the works sake (IE. Spent time, save money, enjoy what you are doing?".. But in this case you are spending money and creating more work, so the question is "What do you want out of it, what's the end vision? Do you want to say it's a factory style conversion, if so you need that harness and maybe some other stuff.."

I hear you, just prefer the plug and play method, I'll deal with what I have. This was the same guy who when I had the truck shipped back to me out of province had raped parts and left virtually everything loose- so I can't assume anything...especially that I received value for $ spent.
Emissions are gone, very basic truck with no AC or cruise, is there a reason to keep the current ecu installed?

Nah no use for a factory ECU on that, it doesn't read map/maf, doesn't fire individual coil packs, doesn't have adjustable fuel pressure ect...
. At a glance I'm guessing that is a hybrid R series (older head on newer block), since the valve cover looks like the 20r. That would give a higher compression ratio, much like the turbo does, the factory ECU can handle the fuel trim for one or the other to an extent, but both are likely going to be too much. Factory fuel trims hit a limit between 10-20% before they max out and start throwing trouble codes.

The head is 22RE, the valve cover is 22R- just a nice fit.
Injectors are Bosch gen4, 42pph.
- Looking for function of these orphan pluges- I labeled everything I could but some are not used or hanging.
- the red jumper, the truck did have remote start in automatic trim- this related....I can't imagine it's oem.

You should consider saving yourself huge expense and headaches by ditching the whole efi altogether and going with a Holley 450 or 500 Outlaw (depending on your combination) with a blow-through set up. I've done the Megasquirt diypnp and all the peripherals and it was not cheap. If I had to do it all over again, I would do either the Holley Outlaw, or the Holley Sniper 2bbl injection, which is a self learning system capable of up to 350 hp.

Finally on the dyno last week for a shakedown run on 91 octane. Currently at 6psi.
150hp 190tq at the wheels, not finished yet- will be tuning further on 89 octane.
Issues with WB not reading right, elect cooling fan not being controlled, turbo boost controller not hooked up right, puff of white smoke on throttle let off.
Quiet as a mouse- even the blow off valve in tied into the intake. Very oem like, was hoping for more turbine whine.
