SR5 cluster install and oil pressure gauge
Ok i just got in my SR5 cluster and wanted to make sure everything works. I unhooked the battery, unhooked the wire to the oil pressure idiot light, hooked up the cluster and finally the battery. I fired up the engine, and the tach works, the gas gauge works, the volt gauge works(as far as I know), but the oil pressure gauge jumped clear to right then slowly fell back down. Did i just eff this thing up?
BTW for guys like me who have huge meat hooks for hands i found that removing the drivers side vent helped give me plenty of room to get to the speedometer cable. BTW Thanks for having a forum for me to ask noobish questions :) |
You need to change out the idiot sensor on the block with the proper oil pressure sender. Im pretty sure you fried your guage. I hope for your sake im wrong.

The oil pressure gauge works off a 5v reference signal, not the 12V idiot light. You may have burnt the coil out.

Autozone usually stocks the pressure sending unit for the gauge. If you've got one in your area, you can pick it up from them. I just picked one up today for my upcoming SR5 cluster install....paid $27 for it. Once you have that in, all should work fine. Don't forget the teflon tape for it though. That is, if you haven't killed that gauge. I hope you didn't.

nah i didnt but i think somebody else did -_- My dad sent me a sending unit off his 80 toy that had 20r thats now running a 2jze(lucky jerk). I think the guy before me did it and said he worked before testing it :( Yeah i read countless posts on here about making sure that idiot light is unplugged prior to installing the cluster. So now its either a new gauge or wait on another cluster
