Spark plug wire holder

I noticed my spark plug retainers have become brittle and broke. Good timing since this truck is new to me and I have no idea when these beldon Napa wires went In. I decided I’m going with ngk or denso wires but my questions is if the wires come w the retaining clips. Toyota “thinks” they do. But they are not sure and have to order them. The ngk in photos I see do not.

I dont want to order the clips and the 7mm ngk do not fit them. And I don’t want to order the denso for double the price and find out they do not come with them either.

The part in question is this ... https://www.yotashop.com/toyota-pick...SABEgICrPD_BwE

thanks again everyone here

They do not come with the wire holders. LC Engineering makes some real nice ones.

Thanks for the quick reply. If I go with the ngk wires as I plan they show to be 7mm wires. Would the factory wire holders work with these or do I need something different. The ones above show to be for their pro wires which are pretty heavy.

Factory holders should work with 7mm.

Or, you could go with OEM https://www.yotashop.com/toyota-pick...r-19941-65010/

OEM wires (not Denso, Sumitomo from the dealership) come with the clips already installed and arranged perfectly.

this is false. a new set of wires from the dealer comes with the wire stays.

Yes, part # 90919-29055 comes with all the wires & holders for a 22RE.

:coffee:

The part linked in the original post is for a 3VZ-E, so I assume that is the engine we are working with.

The 22R-E factory spark plug wires are made by Sumitomo (they also make the majority of the wiring and connectors for your truck, Yazaki makes some connectors and other electrical components for our trucks too).

I do know that the 22R-E spark plug wire set does come with the wire holders pre-installed.

I am pretty sure the 3VZ-E wire set gets the same treatment.

well I look like an a**. I would find it weird that the 22re comes with wire stays but the 3.sl0w didn't. even the wire set I bought for my 67 fj40 came with wire stays.

Mine that have crapped out are the ones that mount to the bolts on the timing cover.

keycw Sep 9, 2019 10:17 AM

these are the bolt on ones , sometimes called looms.

Spread5150 Sep 9, 2019 01:33 PM

The part I’m looking for looks just like the one I put in the original post. The only thing is that one says it’s for models up to 92. I have a 94 so I’m just worried about that

scope103 Sep 9, 2019 04:03 PM

Well, this dealer https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/_...994165010.html says that part number fits 1989-1995. (It also says Toyota doesn't stock them anymore.)

Since I have a '94, I'd be interested in hearing what you get, and where.

I did not realize the OEM wires cam with the holders. Good to know.

Spread5150 Sep 9, 2019 07:49 PM

https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem/...941-65010.html

well I went with these.

I really wanted to go with ngk wires since they could be had for 40-50 bucks.

Two of these and the ngk wires do not add up to the oem price. If they don’t work I’ll check a junk yard or out come the zip ties.

Spread5150 Sep 13, 2019 10:31 AM

So I ended up going with the factory equipment. I was missing so many of the holders that I figured it would be dang near the cost of factory wires to replace them all and buy the ngk ones. You can’t really see from the factory diagrams which clip you are getting so to avoid headaches. Shipping costs and guessing this worked out.

Yazaki wires are what came with part number 90919-21528.

All holders and clips came with.

yeah, so that isn't the case. the originals in 1987 and 1988 were made by yazaki (both of my '87s had date-stamped 1986 yazaki plug wires), and now (2019) are made by sumitomo.
