Softer Quieter Smoother Ride?
anyone here annoyed by rough, loud normal driving? Anyone ever laid the expensive dynamat or something similar on floors, and doors? I just hear that MBZ, Lexus, BMW, Jag and others used can rubberized undercoating. I know it's much cheaper and faster than laying down dynamat with a heating gun. You'll have to air your vehicle out for days to get rid of the bad smell though.
When i use to compete in car stereo SPL, i would use the rubberized undercoating on the whole floor and doors to kill anything that vibrated, and it made my ride much smoother and quieter

If you gota a Toyota truck its not meant to be quiet or smooth its just meant to do what a toyota does. And thats take you to hell and back like no other vehicle can. Like this guy said. Drop the big tires and get highways. New shocks and struts.

My '92 is quiet as a sleeping baby even with A/T's. Well, except for the little air leak at the driver's door from the body warpage....from a wreck..hehe.
My '86? Forget about it. I live with it.

My 4runner sounded great (aside from the bad location of front speakers) and didn't have any vibrating aside for the license plate. I say coat only what you need so that you keep the weight down of the material cause it gets heavy fast. and if you want a smooth ride get some highway tires like stated and some bilsteins cause they are the best shocks you can buy

If Toyota ever goes IRS, THEN I'll cry. But IFS works just fine for me thank you very much.

On the subject of quietness and smoothness, I think the following would be a good way to start:
None of the above would decrease off road performance. Actually, the heavier fly wheel and the better shocks/stabilizers would increase capability.
You could get street tires in a smaller size if you were willing to really sacrifice offroad ability.
- make sure you exhaust is in good shape and secured properly to the frame
- replace your swaybar bushings- I suspect that's responsible for the clunking I hear over bumps by my drivers front wheel.
- buy some sound deadening material for the firewall and maybe even the underside of the hood too.
- buy high quality shocks
- replace you idler arm bushings- smooths out and tightens up the steering.
- add an aftermarket steering stabilizer
- drape sound deadening material along the driveline tunnel
- lube the speedo cable (if your instrument cluster sounds like there are leaves blowing around inside)
- add a heavier flywheel for engine smoothness.
- ensure your harmonic balancer is in good shape
- grease your steering stops (all 4 of them)
- buy a better muffler

My '95 is smooth & quiet even with A/T's as long as I pay attention to the back gate straps, they are noisy because of the worn out plastic dampeners/keepers & the weather stripping doesn't seal well back there. If I get the straps set right all I hear is a little tire noise, no rattles or squeaks.

It's not just wives, lots of guys drive their 4Runners around with running boards, performance tires, while sipping lattes. My money says ha;f of them don't even know what the center or rear diff lock does.

i wanst happy with the sound of my truck, with the swampers, and such... so i chopped off the muffler and threw on a glass pack, ( less annoying then hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm) no more tire noise!!! its for offroading, its gonna be loud! lol. And theres nothing wrong with IFS, i have had no problems. Ill go most places as anyone with sas, just go around the giant boulder instead of throwing one wheel up on it, i think the only REAL NEED for solid axle is if your rock crawling, like hardcore rock crawling, otherwise in my opinion, ifs is better or just as capable anyways, just disconnect the sway bar. Also, i would imagine, with a solid axle this kinda stuff, http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fusea...deoid=30340543, would actually kinda hurt.... unsprung weight... *shivers* uugggghhh...
