sluggish accelerating pinging etc. since new engine

:dunno: I had a perfect engine till my 86 22RE Dolphin got stolen. Since getting a low mileage engine , things just aren't right yet. MPG dropped from 13 with AC on to 11...It's more sluggish accelerating uphill...I hear a distinct (not loud) tapping or quiet knocking sound as its idling, where I never heard this in my other quiet one...After an hour drive in the hills, the very next time I try to start it, it chugs like it's cold real bad once or twice, then finally starts okay after that. it pings going up medium grades in the heat and I've had to switch gas to higher octane plus use additives(Mechanic raised the timing up 3 or 5 ). I have a small constant drip from rear main seal leaving a spot 2 to 3" until RV sits longer than 5 days, then it stops. Mechanic says it's residue and he can't get up in there to wipe it clean. I'm doubtful since drip hasn't changed from before or after him doing seal repair. Could these all be connected in some way or do I need a sensor or small adjustment? I did supply an O2 sensor to be used by catalytic converter, yet I didn't mention that and he installed it up by engine. Do I need two?? Plus constant starter problems mentioned in other post...You guys are so helpful and great, I thought I'd throw this out to you too. :bang: :cry2: Any ideas here please????

Sounds like yours problems are related to either the O2 sensor or the TPS. The timing shouldnt be that big of an issue to make the motor run the way it does.

Where are you from? Alot of people on here to point you in the right direction or to the right mechanic.

Whats a TPS???

Hi: Whats a TPS & do you have one or two O2 sensors? I'm in Yosemite.
Thanks!!

TPS is the Throttle Position Sensor, it tells the computer the position of the throttle.

My 4runner only has 1 O2 sensor and it's in the exhaust header, not near the cat at all.
