Side Mirrors
Hello everyone..
I have a question on side mirrors. Im trying to find the larger mirrors and it seems like there's only plastic available.. I found these on eBay, but they seem to be real proud of that set. https://www.ebay.com/itm/32534550325...hoC8REQAvD_BwE I also found these, but they're for a Ford Bronco. https://tomsoffroad.com/parts/66-96-...BoCM-QQAvD_BwE They look identical, I might have to flip that bracket, that's about it. Any suggestions? Thanks |
My 86 SR5 came with these big mirrors and mount. The shell is chromed plastic. Haven't seen any this style for sale anywhere. I like them and probably why I bought the truck. LOL.

Those look great! And that's a nice looking truck! Im not too interested in OEM or anything like that. Just looking for a good mirror that is similar to the one you have. It seems theres not too many options in the agtermarket.

OK. Thought you might be looking for OEM style. I've looked in the past and haventl found too many. Seen a traditional door single mounted decent sized looking ones that look good.

Toyota called those "western style" mirrors. If you use that in a google search you might find more options. Toyota made their mirrors available in pairs as an accessory. The top mount used the same holes as the stock mirror, just had to drill and nutsert for the bottom mount. The ones on JoeS' vehicle I'm guessing are aftermarket. The one's Toyota retailed had the top mount bar horizontal before it curved down towards the bottom mount.
Good visibility. The only downside was the mirror head could bounce around a bit on the freeway if the road was rough. |
They were OEM on the truck when I bought it new in 86 from the dealership. Could have been an upgrade. I have seen a few others, not many, over the years with the same style mount. Seen the horizontal bar ones as well. They are definitely more 4x4 looking.
They do offer great visibility with no blind spots. The mirror can be adjusted inside the housing, but can imagine that mount system could vibrate off road as Jimkola mentions. Seems to be more a street/tow mirror than rugged off-road. The mounts don't have that top and bottom pivot bolts as do the flat top style, so if you bash them hard on anything they will damage the door and maybe internals. |

Mine is an 86 SR5 X-cab with car like carpets, door cards, with a split rear window and door widow vents.

that's a bit of a large camper to be pulling with that truck.

Looks like a 22R engine with that bed style as my golf buddy had an 85 like that in burgandy. The were the workhorse with the 8 inch rear and he had a 4 speed if i recall correctly. Mine has the 7.5 inch 3.57 diff with a 5-speed OD. I think mine is rated at just 2000 pounds. I wouldn't want to tow it. LOL
