should I trade my 4runner for this truck?

Hey guys haven't been around in a long time, been really busy with work and moving to a new house, anyways I wanted to get yotatechs opinion, should I trade my 86 4Runner for this 82 Pickup? It's got 3" body lift, 5" spring lift, 37s, 4spd, rebuilt motor, new driveshafts, dual shocks on the front etc..Went to check it out last night and basically its up to me, I love the 4Runner but I'm looking for a weekend wheeler now and I have the camaro to dd, the 4Runner needs quite a bit to get it where I want wheelin wise. The only thing that worries me about the 82 is that it's carb'd, it does have a weber though and he says he hasn't had any problems with it stalling at steep angles.

Heres a couple pics of the 82..

He obviously wants to get rid of it for a reason... you might wanna do more homework... i know its only opinion but keep your runner. save some money build it up. i love my 86 runner and would give it up for nothing. plus your 22re will do better than the 22r over the long run.

Actually I put the 4Runner on craigslist for trade just to see what kind of offers showed up. I was just curious if anything interesting would show up, and this truck has my attention. Like I said, I checked it out last night, drove it and there weren't any glaring issues with it. It's rough around the edges, but it's not a daily driver and I don't care about asthetics for a weekend toy.

Well its up to you man. If you want a money opinion? Then its worth the money conidering what hes got in it compared to your basic stock runner. Hes got atleast 2000$ into the mods on that truck easy and another 1000$ mechanical.... not counting the rareity of the pick-up itself. sooo technically its worth it.... IF YOU LIKE IT! It looks capable of doing anything you want to do with it.

No matter what you do, you're still looking into a few grand to turn either one into a good trail rig. 4.88s are ideal only up to a 33, no matter what anyone tells you. Lockers are a must. What is his steering configuration? If it's not crossover, then you can plan on switching that over. What about transfer case gears? You're gonna want at least a single 4.70 case, if not duals. Does the front axle have longs? Etc, etc, etc....

You must remember that ANY truck can become a wheeler. Ultimately, you're still driving the TRUCK, not the MODS under it. A lift and a big set of tires is NOT a built truck, just a start. That being said, I can find rust free 1st gen runners all day long for $1200-$2000 here in Colorado. 1st gen trucks are a little harder to find, but still around. I have a fully built 84 standard cab, and a stock 88 runner, and I'd much rather have a built runner with efi any day. My biggest complaint is seating. At best it's me and a friend, and usually that friend is my dog, so not much conversation there. There's a lot to think about.

Actually, I just changed my mind after looking at the pics a little deeper. Dual front shocks, stock cross member, stock length lift springs, and a friggin' 3" body lift. That truck is a poser, keep the runner and build it up right when you get around to it.

if you are serious about it, check out everything as the others posted, then tell him, since its gonna bw a weekend wheeler, that you wanna test drive it offroad...

my bet is that you wont like the ride... if it were up to me, id keep the runner... more potions, and you dont have to deal with someone else's hack job... you know everything thats been done to your runner... do you know EVERYTHING thats been done to the 82?

thought not...

i'd trade him if it....

1. didn't have a body lift
2. wasn't bobbed
3. wasn't half-assed turned into a 4runner

IMO, the only thing that truck has going for it is big tires and a SFA. Any pics of the 4Runner?

He went to 35's and did a massive lift without spending a couple hundred on lockers. WTF. FAIL. He probably did it mostly for looks and didn't care much about performance. Take note and proceed with caution.
