short throw shifter for 90 Pickup?
 

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was an availability of a short throw shifter for a 1990 Toyota Pickup 5 speed? I remember seeing one on ebay a while back for first generation 4 runners, but can't seem to find one for the 1990 pickup... any help would be appreciated.

ive seen them for 2wd but no 4wd

well you didint say if you had a v6 or not but it looks like you have one from your aviator so my first post is for a 22re

It's a V6 3VZE, 4x4... wow I didn't think it would be that expensive... 195 bucks is kind of steep for me, guess I'll stick with the stock setup.

Anyone with some simple fabrication skills (cutting and welding) can make their own short throw shifters. I've made several of my own with awesome results on all of them.

It's simple basics of leverage. Lengthen the lever below the pivot point and you shorten the throw. On all of the cars that I've done, I generally shorten the lever above the pivot point about 3/4-1" and lengthen it 3/4-1" below the pivot point. This makes for a very short and sharp shift.

On our trucks, I would leave the length above the pivot and extend the lever below the pivot point about 1".

Depending on the application and amount that you lengthen the shifter below the pivot point, you may need to put spacers under your pivot point.

Try ebay. You can use the one for a taco. Except for the tailhousing the have the same tranny. And yes I have one in my '90 pickup.

Yes, I'd say ebay is a good option if you don't want to modify your shifter. But, you could take your stock shifter to a welder and they could add a piece below the pivot point in a matter of minutes. Then you go to Lowe's/Home Depot and get some thick acrylic (or get some thinner and glue them together) and cut the piece out to raise the pivot point.

If my dad wasn't borrowing my welder, I'd modify mine and trade you for your stock one. That way you wouldn't have to go without a shift lever. If you're still in the need for one after January, let me know.

I am sorry but 85-88 22R's did not come with ANY W series transmissions. Unless someone can show me the 2wd 22r's had a W series. which I doubt.

So does Marlin Crawler. I just got two from them for an R150. Cost Like $310 shipped if I remember right. My truck has a 4" body lift so they made a huge difference, and some getting used to. Short throw = more effort. Shipped'em mine and came back with a new base (xfer) and spacer (r150)

Has anyone tried this kit? Does it work good? Is it worth it? I have read some make their own but not too familiar with how to do that so thought about purchasing this kit for my 85 4wd.

I bought mine from marlin Crawler. They are much tighter in pattern.

Mine had a 4" body lift so I have both.

Does the R154 shifter work on the R15xf platform? I have a dope C's Shifter I would love to use
