Shifting issues
I have an 89 pickup. The clutch must be fully depressed in order to start the truck or shift while driving, and I mean to the floor pressed hard. Which isn't a major issue, however recently I've had trouble with 2 things. When I try to put the truck in reverse. It won't engage the gear, it just grinds against it. I've actually had to smack the stick in order to get it into reverse. Also. 1st gear is having the same issue at to.as, and this is with the clutch fully depressed. I have no clue where to even start other then bleeding the clutch, which didn't help at all. I never got any air out. Just fluid. Help!

Check your clutch pedal braket. It is likely broken.

Ok. Would that be under the dash?

If it is a broken bracket, can these be removed and welded as a fix, or must they be replaced?
|
Welding is a good way to fix it. Should be good as new.

Awesome. I can't wait to get off work and check this out.

Just had same issue 2 days ago! have a look at the pedal bracket. Top left corner of it. There will be a crack in it. Take off the pedals and remove the plastic vent tube/pipe that's right there when you take off lower part of dash, that goes to your far left vent. (2 screws way up there), Will have to play around with that bracket to get it off. Get it welded, and I put a bolt horizontal on the top and filled it all up, after using vise grips to hold it back to where it should be. Then bleed the clutch line just for ˟˟˟˟s, and youll be good to go. Ive had more than 1 experience with my bracket cracking.

I actually resolved this issue already but forgot to post that I did. Mine wasn't a cracked bracket. It just needed to be adjusted.

Good to hear. Keep an eye on that bracket tho.
