seafoamin

hey guys, got some seafoam, and i needed to know where the pcv hose is. i tried posting in another thread and searching a little bit, but no good pictures. any help is appreciated. thanks guys

xxxtreme22r 02-04-2011 08:37 AM

back top of the valve cover.

peow130 02-04-2011 08:56 AM

Pcv or right off the brake booster. I've done off the brake booster a few times. On my pickup I know the pcv hose is really stiff.
Do the oil, and gas first.. then use the remaining seafoam and slowly pour it in the vac. Line.. then when you're almost out, start pouring it in heavily to let it kill the engine. Wait 15 minutes, restart it, and enjoy the smoke show.

Hey XXX, can seafoam be used to clean the EGR? If so how? (I heard a friend of a friend say he did it...)

xxxtreme22r 02-04-2011 09:06 AM

I doubt it unless he took the EGR off.

that right angle hose?

xxxtreme22r 02-04-2011 09:18 AM

no, that's the front crank case vent, the one in the back goes to the pvc. The hose should go right from the intake manifold to the pcv valve.

87hillbillyoter 02-04-2011 09:22 AM

sorry im going off of complete memory here. not next to my truck at the moment haha

TNRabbit 02-04-2011 09:42 AM

You can put seafoam in ANY intake/vacuum hose.

87hillbillyoter 02-04-2011 09:59 AM

which one is the easiest then? i will be at my truck in another hour and a half

Do what Peow recommended.

There are several youtube vidoes on Seafoaming - same technique on other cars, it's not model specific.

Use 2 cans - about $9 each.

Do oil and gas treatment first, then, as he said, pull off the brake booster hose while truck is running and SLOWLY siphon the seafoam through the vacuum hose into the intake manifold....your engine will shake violently. You want to suck the seafoam at a rate that ALMOST makes your truck die, but doesn't. When you get to the last ounce or two of seafoam, dump it all into the vacuum hose - this should kill your engine....if it doesn't turn it off right away and let it sit for a while before starting again. When you start it again, take it for a spin and try to keep the RPMs high - you will put out a LOT of white smoke - that's normal - this is all the crap you removed, getting "evicted" from your truck :)

Just don't go too crazy on the revs :)

Actually, the smoke is from an oil additive in the Seafoam...

Whichever you can grab first.

Lizardcrunch 02-04-2011 10:38 AM

dug up my old 22r parts don't know if your efi or not but I also snapped a pic of my 3.0 locationto just in case.

maybe someone can identify the hose location from the parts i slapped together

I used the hose that runs off the throttle body back to the charcoal cannister when I did my 22RE:

Why? It is long (so can easily reach the can of cleaner), it is easy to find (hooked to the "P"urge port on the TB):

It is small, so easier to control the SeaFoam flow without sucking in the whole can in 2 seconds and it is way up front in the intake, so spreads the material over everything down stream.

87hillbillyoter 02-04-2011 11:04 AM

thanks for all the input guys. sorry i forgot to put im 22r. not fuel injected

87hillbillyoter 02-04-2011 03:34 PM

ok i did it through the pcv hose, and everything went well, except i had no white smoke come out of my exhaust :think:

peckinpah 02-04-2011 05:16 PM

If you spray anything in the throttle body, unplug your TPS (throttle position sensor) first. Or better yet, just skip that part completely.

One of the videos shows the guy spraying all kinds of seafoam throttle body cleaner straight into the throttle body without disconnecting anything. This is not advisable unless you wanna spent $100+ on a new TPS.

I'm not convinced that Seafoam crap actually DOES anything. But all that white smoke sure is impressive. And you feel better about yourself and your car maintenance skills afterwards, for whatever that's worth (20 bucks a can?).

Just use the brake booster hose like you're supposed to, right where it attaches to the brake booster, and you'll get a ton of white smoke, I guarantee it.

peow130 02-05-2011 03:16 AM

Actually the seafoam is okay. It decarbonizes some parts of your engine. I know, because there was a black soot mark on my driveway when I was done doing my bronco. (Or it was running rich, either way lol)

If you want a REALLY clean engine, ill show you the inside of my 22r. Not a spec of sludge, or any of that rocker bronzing that I see so frequently.
Its called castrol GTX high mileage, and half a quart of ATF. Guaranteed to clean out your engine sludge.

Lizardcrunch 02-05-2011 05:37 AM

do you leave the half quart of ATF in your engine and just go or what

britx303 02-05-2011 07:21 AM

why don't people just pull the intake off,and properly clean it.not sure about the carb'd models(been too long since i had one),but the efi's intake comes off in less than 10-15 minutes, and you can truly see what is being cleaned and what is not, especially all those little vacuum ports, and all around the coldstart injector.then after you do this, seafoaming does more for your valves,as opposed to fighting all that grime that is surely there in the air chamber.as for the atf,i did that to my old '90 hilux 4x4,as per instructions by my best mate who is an import mechanic.he said to drain about one qt. of oil and fill with one qt. atf, drive for about 100 miles, then change the oil altogether.i seriously doubt it would do any harm another way, being as many engine oils have tranny additives to help with clean lubrication anyways.just my 2c.

Run it about 500 miles and change your oil..
That's what I did. Worked like a charm. And it IS a proper way to clean your engine, hell, just running the castrol gtx is a good way to do it.

87hillbillyoter 02-05-2011 11:11 AM

here yall go. this is all it did, i thought it would go for a little longer, but i guess my engine was pretty good to begin with.

:baby::baby:so you guys recommend this? has anyone noticed any REAL results... or id there proof that this DOES clean the engine and doesn't harm anything? makes me nervous..... :baby:

Philbert 02-05-2011 02:43 PM

That video looks about right. It's scary the first time, but that's normal. Do make sure you change your oil not too long after - it will be full of old, bad stuff that gets knocked off by the seafoam.

Ezrider_92356 02-05-2011 06:29 PM

doing sea foam in the intake has never caused any problems for me on multiple vehicles and always seems to make them run better afterward, even had one old car that was pinging and running on after turning off the key and it completely cured the problem.

peckinpah 02-05-2011 06:54 PM

My truck is also running fine after the seafoam treatment, but I'm not sure how much is due to the seafoam, it was running good before I used it.

I do think that seafoam in your oil causes rubber seals to swell up. I had a hell of a time getting my oil filter off when it came time to change my oil after 100 miles, and I'm pretty sure that was from the seafoam making my oil filter's rubber seal to swell up.

Damn !!

Whoever owns that blue 4 Runner in 87's post above really ought to consider a valve adjustment soon !!!!

Its a few things.
Injector cleaner in the gas, desludger in the oil, and decarbonizer in the vac and other places.
Yes, it does work. Not as well as other things, but for 6 dollars, you really can't beat it.
Running ATF or marvel mystery oil will desludge your engine, injector cleaner will clean your injectors, and idk of any other decarbonizers.
Seafoam also works really well to clean crap out of the plenum with a brush. So its a decent solvent.
