sdori ifs brace question

sdori ifs brace question
hey there, i have been looking at the sdori ifs brace it says its fits all 1986-1995 pickups but i have read on here where people say you should measure and send the dimensions in. if i bought it off of sdori would it just bolt on to my '92 pickup??? i also wanna run a diff drop but have read that the diff might come into contact??? if anyone can explain it to me i would be greatful. thanks

alright thanks man i just dont wanna spend money and it not fit. how much is the nwor brace??? i know the sdori one from trdparts4u.com is only 85 bucks. does that sound about right?

The diff drop will not play with the ifs brace!!!! When i was considering the ifs brace from sonoran steel i sent them an e-mail asking if they would work together and the definative answer was no. I took it with a grain of salt and went with the brace first and check the clearance after and indeed it will not work. Send an e-mail if you want to the guys over at sonoran steel to reassure yourself but that's what i was told. I even went with the less intrusive downey unit and even thought there is less material and i different design it still won't work together.

I dunno.. I think you might have some interfearance issues with the brace and 4Crawler's diff drop...
that one inch brings the pinion pretty far down
you even have to drop the mounts for the sway bar when you install the diff drop; that's how much it moves things around

dang i was afraid to hear that. well what do you think would be more worth it? the added strenth of the brace or the diff drops? i have broke 2 cvs with in the last year, well i just tore the boot both time but replaced the cvs anyway.

wait... are you tlaking about the IFS brace or the Idler arm brace? I was talking about the idler arm brace... NWOR doesn't sell an IFS brace... but yeah, like everyone said, a diff drop wont work with the IFS brace.... my bad for the confusion

I vote diff drop. CV joints are more important but I have an idea... could you modify the brace a little bit?
make it come down and then go across? would that be possible?

I went with the brace for strength but it depends what kind of wheeling you do. If you have any fab skills you could make your own to work with the diff drop. It's not a complicated piece but for what it's worth i would go with a brace. I didn't crank my bars up that much after i installed the bj spacers so the cv's breaking have yet to be an issue for me.

well would the brace fit with full budbuilt skid plates to? and i use to work at a shop where they built up a few yotas and jeep so im sure they could hook me up and make the brace work

It solves the problem of one of the weak points on the ifs system. The rear of the ifs has little or no bracing and when wheeled hard can bend the mounts and the frame. Thus causing a weak frame and huge issues with allignment. Depending on how you drive when you wheel, what kind of wheeling you do, and what cv's you're running (mine are toyota cvs and have been the strongest longest lasting cvs i've purchased) will determine what you'll want to do. I'm really light on the skinny pedal when i wheel so the lifting the tire and mashing the gas causing the tire to hit the ground and snap the cv is'nt much of an issue for me. I also mud my truck on occasion ans wheel it pretty hard but i don't get super crazy with it. Slow and steady has taken me more places than fast and furious. Except in the mud, i get a little stupid when it comes to mud!

if I'm not mistaken, the majority of the brace users are guys running at high speeds and hitting jumps in the desert
when the suspension fully compresses on the landing of a jump, the lower control arms hit the bump stops, but if there's still more force coming and no more suspension travel left, the force of the impact torques the frame rails inward (inward at the top, outward at the bottom where the control arm attaches), thus bending the actual frame of the truck, and throwing the alignment to crap...
but on the other hand, I've seen them installed purly to have a place to mount a full underbelly skid plate to for on the rocks...
so it's either or
as far as the diff drop, it'll be most useful I think if you don't have manual hubs... they do save boot ware if you have the ADD system where the CVs are always spinning. The other facter that leads to needing a diff drop is BJ spacers (which I see you have) or other suspention mods, that lead to more droop; droop to the point where at full extension, the CVs actually bind because the hit too high of an angle. That's actually exactly why I HAD to install them... before I did, at full drop, the CVs were binding, and the drive-line would not budge

well i have manual hubs and like i said i have only torn the cv boots. all i do is mud but most of it is easy 2wd stuff or 4wd hi. the only time i tear the boots are when i was in 4wd low. i ran this setup all hunting season and in hunting season my truck sees mud everyday with out a problem. lol im thinking bout getting the brace now??? that said how are the sdori braces???

you should talk to CurleyRacecars, backgate. He's a local guy to me and makes a pretty cool product for cheap. he lives about 10 minutes from me. He also makes bumpers for your year of pickup.
