I had a 89 4runnner i used to rev the piss out of every day, I bought it with 330 000kms for $600 and just wanted it for its tanny, t-case and rear axle i was going to put in my samurai. soooo the day i got it i took it out with a friend and his rig, and we planed to just rat bag it and tow it home i dont think it came below 3500 rmp, iI was doing 120km/hr in 3rd for km after km on the old dirt roads. It freakin blew my mind it just would not die. so I used it as my daily driver for the next year without a single hicup, thats what first turned me onto toyota. Long live the 22RE

ive hit about 5500 in the 91.
But my 83 i'd hit 6500ish all day.
Beat the hell out if it and it took it.
But hey i'm just a guy that drives the piss
out of anything i can get behind the wheel of.

My 22re Just crossed 200k miles and mine see's 3k-4k daily and Can get mine to 5,500k and it doesn't like struggle to get there either.... I got it topped out and it does 120-125mph when you calculate the rpm's.

I do however sit about .5'' lower than stock and have a camper shell, and stock sized tires. 5 speed of course. It does have a cold air intake system, lc engineering headers, pacesetter full exhaust. with the ability to get to 5,500 rmp I can hit 60 in second gear, I don't do it often for obvious reasons.

Mines not a 22re but i've taken it to 7,000 rpms many times. I know have a rev limiter for the new engine I am building. New engine with have all ARP bolts. I'm hoping to to turn 6,500 rpms safely.

Safe Rpm??

I have a 89 Toyota pickup 2 wheel drive 22r 4 speed recently hooked up a after market tach followed all directions for most accurate readings she's got the 2 barrel carb nothing electronic or computerized that's why I love it so much anyway to the point I'm wondering what is safe RPM range considering it's not computerized so there is no rev limiter I've hit 4400 RPM pulling out into traffic motor didn't miss a beat (she's got over 600k on the odo) well taken care of all the oil services all that good stuff just curious as to what she will hold if I wanted to give er h***
