well it certainly is different. not to obad. if you cleaned up the mating surfaces a bit, i think it would look much better. way to be creative,

Thanks 881stgenRunner
I am planning on raising it up a little to meet the roof of the cab about 1".3/8 and then adding a caver for the front and back. In the front I am doing a ply wood wall with a plexiglass window so i can see out the back And in the back I will just cut some glass and mount with a hinge and latch |
a little paint will go a long way to making it look better
|
MAYBE if it was painted? I dunno
|
yeah it is deffinatly different i had to cut off 5" to make it fit length wise.
I suppose i will keep it for the winter and go from there. anyone have any color suggestions for it ?? I was hoping to get it painted b4 the winter as well. |
make the entire truck one color. it seems like the majority of your front end is black. go ahead and finish everything off.
|
ide go with black..only because it hides things well haha
|
i would go with grey or silver. maybe even olive drab. i think it looks awsome though. maybe you and i are weird but i think its def cool and an attention getter. good luck with her man.
|
A little paint, yeah, but I like it. That's an OEM 1st Gen top right? isn't it really heavy compared to one of those 1st gen look-alike fiberglass toppers? Granted those are flippin expensive. Nice job!
Andy |
Yes it is a oem 1st gen top
Not bad for a case of beer huh? The thing was pretty heavy to start but I had to chop the front by 5" to get it to fit my bed. So now it is a bit lighter. haha I was thinking of doing an olive drab with tan combo......But i kind of like the yellow tan color myself. I am definitely going to keep the tan for sure the lighter colors hide imperfections well haha. Has anyone changed their gears from 4.10 to 4.88 mine stock came with the four tens but I want to get better gas millage out of it the things a hog right now. 11mpg when I pound it and the best i have gotten was around 15.5mpg I am assuming there will be a bit of low end loss of torque.....? Correct me if I am wrong. |
Is your bed the length of a regular one? I am wondering if a 1st gen top will work as a camper shell for my truck now!
|
By the way, love the idea! It is definitely different! Good name too! I don't know why I'm so excited! I just keep using exclamation points! :con: :eeek: :hillbill:
|
That may very well work because i had to hack 5" off the front to make it fit my bed.
No my bed it not regular by any means its a custom bed. The truck was a long bed 4x4 originally but the frame was chopped b4 i owned it and I just fitted the cap to the bed. If you did manage to get one on your camper idea I would like to see some pix. As far as I know I'm the first one to do this sort of thing.......HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN THIS DONE BEFORE???? |
Thanks I kinda wung it. I just got bored one weekend and wanted to make a cap for my truck and didnt want to totally build one.
Winter is coming and I have a spare and a high lift in the back that i would like to keep out of the elements. Glad you can appreciate it, thanks a lot. Both directions are working on the slider windows. I back cut the window frame and glued it back into place so that the window still locks in place. That I have to say I was very impressed with my self for doing. |
I doubt I'll get pics, because I doubt I'll ever do it. My roll bar has saved my life once alredy, and I don't ever plan on taking it off. I did cut a camper shell to fit around it, but my gas mileage really sucked so I took it off.
|
Hahaha yeah I do not think this will be increasing my millage any either.
but what the hell it was cheep and looks different. I think you should do it anyway. Im assuming that you rolled your truck...was it bad or nothing to serous? |
Sweet, your flatdeck reminds me of my old one, looks good with the 4runner top. I had a camper shell on mine, may put it on for weight this winter.
