Rocksliders VS Chains and Misc.
Okay here is the deal. I am on the edge of deciding what to do. I was originally planning on getting some 4crawler rocksliders (because it is my belief that armor comes before anything else.) i.e. 1. armor and protection 2. recovery 3. blah blah....... So I have just around 450 bucks to work with and was planning on getting some standard RB rock sliders with both a front and rear kick so tat when I eventually get some trail bumpers I can wrap some steel around the wheel wells and have a little exo action. However, my bro just got me some BJ spacers for Christmas, so now I am thinking of whether I should spend my money on the rear coils spacers( or lift springs), the lift lip protectors for my RB body lift which is installed. I did a body lift before sliders so that the sliders could be designed for the lift, because on down the road I plan on tucking up my undercarriage. So now that winter is here and I have the funds should I just complete the other half of the suspension lift and get the lift lips and get some tire chains for some trails I want to run this winter or spend it all on the sliders which I had originally planned on doing to get out of the way. I am thinking sliders, to stick with my doctrine but there is that danged voice second guessing me, but i have already been punched in the rocker panel one too many times. thanks guys,, just looking for a little feedback:banger:

personally i would go with armor first. thats what im doing. armor, lockers, then lift. im ordering a rear bumper first because i have no rear recovery point, but sliders, skids, and front bumper are right around the corner. then lockers (regear while im at it), then coilovers and 33's.

Go with your gut. Only you know what your budget can take and what you intend to do with your rig before next summer (rides, mods, etc.)
With that said, If your lift directly affects the mounting of your sliders then you should finish the lift. Otherwise, it's up to what you really want. |
Are you gonna wheel this winter? If so, definitely sliders.
Do you need new tires? If no, then don't worry about the lift. Gap guards are a purely cosmetic thing that can be done any time ... I would do that when you have money literally burning a hole in your pocket. |
no need for chains, go with the sliders!!

I'd say go with the sliders. Clearance from a lift and tires means much less when you can just bounce off of stuff and not worry at all (OK...must have BudBuilt pans too).
I run 31s and can wheel with the big tire boys. Some trail obstacles they won't even try because they don't have the armor. Armor up first! Two cents given. :-) |
Oh yeah...I almost forgot. The exo question. I don't personally have that on my rig but maybe check out Iron Pig out of Fredericksburg, VA. They do all kinds of rails and exos and hybrid exos. Plus, they are really cool to deal with kind of like Bud from BudBuilt.com I hear the Iron Pig guys will do any kind of custom/hybrid stuff you want. They don't just sell stuff from their inventory. They'll make whatever you need...within reason.

I prefer to think of it as no matter how much you lift, the rocks are still bigger and you're still gonna hit some. |
I would also do the sliders first. Go ahead and install the BJ spacers for more travel. They aren't only used for lift ya know! :great:
