Ring Job? And Did I Cause it?
i had my 22re rebuilt about 15k mi ago. pulled it out and put it back in myself.
Everything went well except for the very end when I let my guard down and got to excited to fire it up. I swapped 2 spark plug wires on accident. I drove it around for about 20 mi thinking i just needed to give it some time and it would clear up. (never driven i fresh rebuild before).
Ever since the rebuild i have noticed that i get a pretty bad rumble/vibration when accelerating heavy mostly when applying a load like going up hill. If i let off the gas it stops.
I did a compression test yesterday and my results were...
1 - 172
2 - 168
3 - 123
4 - 173
Would driving it around for about 20 mi and idling for over on hour with switched plug wires on a fresh rebuilt cause the rings not to seal?
I intend to try putting some oil in cyl 3 today and re-measuring to see if it really is the rings.

Yeah. You need the fuel to be igniting completely. Or it will accumulate and wash the oil off of the cylinders/pistons/rings. Leading to lack of cylinder/piston/ring lubrication. The rest is self-explanatory.
I suspect you have significant damage to at least 1 piston/cylinder(likely 2). And what you're hearing is probably said piston(s) banging around in there. Due to the rings not sealing properly. Undoubtedly scoring the piston and cylinder heavily in the process.
In short...START OVER. You blew it...unfortunately.
Now you know better than to do that again though. Ain't life fun!
