Hey guys,

I've got a 93 4runner SR5 V6 in desperate need for a new clutch. I'm just curious if there's something worth suggesting... stock? aftermarket???

Now, is taking the step up to a ceramic clutch really going to live up to the performance that they claim? I'll be doing lots of city driving, and also "some" offroad stuff in a couple months when the weather gets better...

Most say the ceramic should be saved for competition as it's pretty darned grabby & chatters.

Marlin has this:

Throughout the 80s and 90s, Marlin had used LuK and BorgWarner Clutches with much displeasure. Both kits seemed to loose their "new clutch" feel, and seemed to wear out sooner than stock. Marlin wanted a clutch kit that grabbed better and lasted longer, but without wearing out his legs over a long weekend trail.

I 2nd that.. They're hard to manage in my experience.

Had good luck with several CFI clutches also.

I see the description as you posted... but don't see the little shopping cart thing. All I see is the conventional clutch kit listed under it, which I'm assuming is the OEM replacement with the 900lb pressure plate...

i just put in my centerforce II and it works great, the marlin was a little to harsh for me ( my rommie has it)

my centerforce 2 exploded all the material on the pressure plate side sheared(sp) off and over 1/4 of the flywheel side sheared off. it had less than 40k miles on it...I just installed the HD marlin and I am really impreased its has a real smooth feel and it has bite.

No, that's the 1200lb plate. "Conventional" means non-ceramic, not OEM. My understanding is that the 1600lb plate is the same price and you just specify you want the beefier one when you order.

The best luck I've had with contacting them is to email Steve Meza (steve@marlincrawler.com). He's very responsive to questions and I wanted to order by phone so when I was ready I just emailed him asking him to call me. He called me like 20 minutes later.

They only offer the 1600 for the v6 or you can get eiher for the 4 cyl

stock aisin clutch....love the feel and engage grip. dads ran for 180,000 just changed 2 months ago. .......im dead serious. if anything dont get a luk. too stiff in my opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! So far I'm leaning towards the Marlin HD clutch kit, but I'm concerned about the ride quality with such an increase in the pressure plate. Some of you claim it to be smooth, and others to be a bit too grabby...

... i guess buy it and find out?

Well, what are you going to be using the clutch for?

If rockcrawling, then go for the ceramic clutch imho.

If normal daily driving, or even mild offroad driving, then I recommend the stock clutch made by aisin. I bought mine for under $100 off of eBay. Of course, I looked and couldn't find one for your year with the v6.

Just make sure you get your flywheel refinished if you put in a new clutch. If I could go back, though, I might have considered just getting a brand new clutch for a few more dollars.
