Replace antenna
 

Hey there, I have a regular stock antenna (not power) on my '95 4Runner, was wondering what it takes to replace it? I want to get a shorter one that doesn't want to snap off when I'm driving off roads through branches, etc. Do I have to get under the fender, or can it all be done from the exterior? Can only find threads about power antenna replacement..

I replaced my busted power antenna a few years ago with a nice whip from Autozone. I like it because it just bends and snaps back when you hit a branch or something.

As I recall, I took off the cowl inlet grille up by the wipers, and the inside fender behind the front wheel. That allowed me to get to everything I needed to. Wasn't too awful a job - probably took 2-3 hours not working very fast.

Ah, so probably the same process regardless if it's a power antenna or regular antenna, maybe a little bit easier, but was hoping it would all be easy external work. Thanks!

My 92 4Runner had a broken antenna it was just unbolt the broken one pull the coax out .

Feed the new one in .

The hardest part(most time) was pulling the radio to disconnect and connect the coax.

Hmm, alright. That sounds a lot easier. I'll give it a go today.

If you are starting from a manual antenna, you may be able to use the same base and just screw the new antenna to it. Since I was starting with a power antenna, I had to pull everything out, fab a new base, and fish the coax through.
