Regear question....(from 4.3 to 4.88)
Hello
I have a 1990 V6 3.0 4Runner, with manual transmission.
Last month i lifted the car ( 1" BL + OME susp.+sdori BJ and coil spacers) , and i put 33x12.5x15 tires .
Yesturday i was on my first longer trip with the car (~1000 km), the mpg is not bad, but the problem is with the power....i almoust completly lost the 5th gear, and i can't keep the speed uphill, only if i downshift to 3rd.
I have 4.30 gear on the car right now.
If i regear to 4.88, i will regain the lost power ?
Can you confirm if i need something else, for regearing, than these :
(PORC page)
1 x Toyota 8" V6 Master Install
1 x Toyota 8" V6/Elocker 4.88
1 x Toyota 7.5" IFS 4.88
1 x Toyota IFS V6 Front Master Install
Thank you
Zoli

488's should get you back to your original gearing (maybe slightly lower) assuming you had 30's originally on with your 4.30;s
33/30X4.30 is your equation to get you to your oem gearing.
your list from PORC is pretty much complete yes. what brand gear are you purchasing?

I am very happy with my 4.88's and 33's. In 5th, I am running 3000RPM at 70 MPH (112KPH).
Yes, I think you have everything you need listed. If you take your truck offroad much, and are considering installing locking differentials, now is the time as the install is essentially the same as doing the gears - so the cost is much cheaper than doing them separately.
