wish i could explain why it worked before but dont work now
there are ways to fool things to work like having the distributor loose, pulling it out a little, adjusting timing with the engine running then take out the jumper and then install the distributor and the ecu will compensate.
but nothing will make it run right by default without the shim (or fuel pump cam) installed short of cheating.

Thanks for the heads up 4x4. I ordered it from LC today for a simple $4.95 and while I'm waiting on it to arrive I'm going to reset the TPS. Jerry at 22reperformance told me to ensure it was also set right. I'm learning a lot through all this, just wish it weren't so frustrating. I need this truck to run soon. I'm leaving in January and I don't want the wife to be stuck with break in proceedures while I'm gone.

Ok we went ahead and pulled the throttle body and tried to reset the TPS. Either my TPS is beyond destroied and whacked out, or the Multi-meter is showing me a funky measurement. With the .85mm feeler gauge in, I shouod see a reading of 2.3K ohms or less.....When using the two bottom pins (In relation to how its mounted when in the truck) we got a reading of 21.x over and over again.

HOWEVER, if we use the bottom and third pin from the bottom, all readings were within spec. Not sure if this other pin is relevant in anyway....but could I possibly have the multimeter on the wrong setting? It only has a volt or ohm setting, no adjustments or changing of the parameters beyond that.

Looks like my days of trying to find the cheapest way out of this are over. I gotta say, I gave it a good run. I dont want to but looks like Ill have to bite the bullet and get a new TPS.

On the left, my factory TPS. In the Middle, Much to my amazement, is a DSM (Mitsu Eclipse, Eagle Talon, Plymouth Laser) 4g63 2.0 Turbo TPS. It looked close enough with an identical case and had to try it. On the right is a weird one. Got that from a salvage yard today. It said 1990 Toyota P/U 4 cyl. on the tag. It was attachted to a throttle body that looked just like mine, but the inside is clocked 90 degrees.....not sure whats up with that. Either way, none work!

I take it you figured out without the TPS you can't set the timing. I'm bet someone on here would sell you one.

Ok EBAY'd me a TPS. It came in. The truck drives now....almost normally. Minus a misfire at idle, no high idle when cold, and the occasional power loss resolved by slamming it to the floor for a quick second then easing back off.

If Im researching correctly this could all be attributed to the TPS being out of adjustment. I think I got it close, but its not perfect yet. Ill try to get a video of it ruinning. It sounds horrible at the moment. But it does drive.

Alright Im retarded. The fat rubber hose that goes from the bottom of the throttle body down and back to the IAC/EGR stuff was connected to the throttle body quite securely.....but i failed to notice that I hadnt attached the other end to anything. Go friggin figure. Buttoned that up, played with the distributor a little, she drives great now! Still has the occasional hiccup that im blaming on the TPS not being dead on the money. Ill fix that tonight.

Fine tuned the TPS day before yesterday, and test drove it around the block. She drives amazing!!!!! Then immediately went to the beach on my Triumph Street Triple and ended up in the hospital for the night. Looks like the 4Runner was fixed up just in time as my bike is no longer an option for transportation anymore. Thank the good Lord above im here to post this but I guess this thread is finished. The truck is good! Still looking forward to healing up enough to get out and go wheeling.

Diggin up the old thread!

Ok several thousand miles later, Im having a new issue that Im pretty sure is timing/tps related.

When im driving to work in the mornings, the truck is bogging and only running on what feels like 3 cylinders unless i nail it to the floor, then its come alive quite nicely. If the truck isnt at 160 degrees+ it refuses to run on 4 cylinders unless its floored. I dont want to be flogging it while the engine is cold. Im gunna re-adjust the tps and timing....ugh....again......

It definitely runs like pure crap until its 160*+ though.
