Rear window switch???

Hello there I am trying to bypass the rear window switch that is located between the front seats, I have a 94 4runner parts vehicle that has no switch the window is up and I want to lower it. I was hoping there might be a way to put 12v directly to the motor from the switch connector?

Thanks!

You could use the pin from your tail light harness to create a jumper

Have a 92, and I believe that when I removed the console the switch wasn't plugged in and the window still worked. I'll check it out later today and let you know.

thanks, I am just trying to jump the connector with a battery and put the window down so I can open the tailgate. It's a parts 4runner has a blown motor in it.

The window is activated by the key switch for up and down

ok so if my ignition switch is not useable I can not bypass it?

Not the ignition switch, the lock switch on the tailgate.
Do you have the battery connected?
Do you have power to the truck?
Can you turn on your ignition and see the dash board lights?
If the door open light is on you can't open the window, you need to play with the tailgate and try and get the door open light to go off.
Help this helps

as stated above, just insert your key into the lock cylinder on the tailgate and turn the key, one direction raises the window the other direction lowers it. the center console switch rarely goes bad. more likely the control box in the driver side panel behind the front seat.

with a battery hooked up to the 4runner I have no dash lights or for lights, I was hoping to add power to the console switch connector and be able to lower it but I'm guessing that's not going to happen for me.

also should mention that if the switch under the the hardtop bolt isnt depressed, the interlock prevents operation, and if the rear wiper isn't seated properly, it will trigger. AND if the window isn't up all the way and the wiper is also not seated at the same time, you've slipped into the twilight zone. try disconnecting the rear wiper motor, check the bolt switch (driver side near the rollbar I believe) and then try the key in the tailgate lock cylinder.

It's a 95 4runner no roll bar. But thanks anyway

If you can access the motor in the tailgate from the inside and apply your ground and 12v that should work. You'll need to have long enough wires that will be out of the way of the glass and gears.

^^^ implies that you are not trying to fix the window system but merely want to lower the window, so yes, This:

Disconnect existing connector from the motor.

I believe that that switch on the console is for lock and unlock, not for raising or lowering the window. That is done by the lock in the tailgate.

most 2nd gens have the switch to raise/lower rear window from the center console

that is an option however the window motor pulls more juice than the lights and will more than likely blow the tail light fuse

OP worse case scenario but probably easiest is to pull the rear interior tailgate cover and jumper it from a car battery instead of chasing switches etc

Humm,
Mine only has a lock/unlock switch, Am I missing a switch? There is an empty slot in the console and another wire harness laying there. My console has 3 slots, 1st is a coin slot, 2nd is the lock/unlock and 3rd is empty.
