rear tube bumper ideas
sliders went on this weekend and rear bumpers next. using 1 3/4 .120 wall dom. i'm looking to combine this one:
with these two:
lemme know what you thing.

I like the first one and the Marlin one but i think the third is pathetic. Try to mix the lower side part of the first one so it slants up towards the back and then for the upper part of the sides do it like the marlin one. for the back part make it like the first pic but add the step, hitch, and shackle mounts from the marlin one.
EDIT: with the slant on the side and the back part, Make all bottom rails of the bumper about an inch of 3/4 of and inch lower than everything between the sides so if you come down on a step the bumper will slide off somewhat instead of the tire or springs or whatever else is back there.

just out of curiosity, whats pathetic about the third? Other than the lack of bracing at the end of the top wrap arounds? Does it need to be further out from the body, or what? I kind of like the look of it, and need to build something...

i agree about the third. just seems like it never got finished. i'm going to try to follow the stock bumpers curves as much as possible. definitely going to base the main part off the first one. not sure if i want loops above the main bar though.

i really like how much ground clearance the bottom two offer (besides the aforementioned weakness of the third picture) and the side hoops of the top one. you still carrying your spare under the bed like the first picture? if you are and are planning on keeping it that way, it might not be a bad idea to build your bumper with that in mind...something has to be the low point on the system and better a bumper than a tire held on by a steel string. just my $0.02.

I have got the Marlin on my '81, I am really happy with it. I have dragged it across rocks/dirt etc. Departure angle increased drastically. I am see if I can tire a hoop over the wheel well to the sliders....
When you build yours besure to have a reciever and integrated recover points inline with your frame mounts..

i'm still running the spare under there. it'd be nice to be able to take it out from under there but they isn't really any other place i'd like to keep it. agreed on the clearance issue. i'm looking for a combo of looks and fuctionality.

i love the marlin bumpers, i have one myself, and ground clearance and strength are both great! but mixing the 3 would be better. i personally like the 3rd one it looks great, i know functionality and strength aren't great but i like the looks better than my marlin....

I like ALpros rear bumper....simple,strong and looks nice. My problem is i have a 3 inch Bodylift, and i dont know how the gap would look..
