Rear spool question?
 

I have a 93 4x4 pickup w/22re 5 speed. i am currently running 33x13.5 ltb's and 5.29 gears and i drive about 10,000 miles per year. I dont have the money for a locker so would a spool be a good or bad idea?

Just weld it and save even more :hillbill: works great

I dont drive very much , but as much as i do drive im a little skittish about welding it up

If done right, a welded diff is no different than a spool. Much cheaper. Just weld it, but make sure the welds are good.

If you are on a budget, and are only driving 10k a year, a welded set up will serve you well.

yup the only road my trail rig sees is too and from the trail... its welded up and i love it!!

Yes, make sure somebody competent welds it up, and make sure the machine is turned up nice and hot. Get the gears really really clean and spray anti-spatter anywhere you won't be welding to keep clean-up to a minimum, you don't want all those bb's stuck to your ring and pinion when you install it. I have heard of people using some 1/4 plate steel to help beef it up along with/over the first welds but I've never done it and it worked just fine.

i wouldn't weld it. ive seen to much bad stuff happen, even when done correctly , and taking all precautions. This is my personal opinion, but if it were me, i would do it right the first time, and spool it, or save up and do a locker.

I burn through 2 sets of cooper stt's in one year and 15,000 miles with my spool.
