No pressing the rotors on the axle for my brackets! You are likely going to have to grind a few thousandths off the axle on the wheel stud side...to slide the rotor over!

Plus any parts store that carries Toyota rotors and calipers will do! Nothing special about this conversion...Your choice either Pre-1985 or use IFS brake components!

Curious if anyone has tried rear RX-7 calipers. They use a side pull parking brake cable.

Resurrection, been searching through all these threads and can't find what I'm looking for...

I have a new to me rig that has the rear discs done on it, and i'm going through the truck and noticed that the rear disc brake pads are a bit larger or off canter from the braking surface of the rotor... meaning the brake pads extend over the edge of the brake rotor and not exactly evenly... these appear to be the gm style calipers but not sure which rotors are on the rig.... is this normal?

Do you have a pic to show the setup?

Actually looking at the pics in this thread closer.... Mine look just like this so I guess it's normal.

You can see the pad on the front side of the rotor is hanging off about 1/4 of the way and the pad on the rear is slightly off too. Strange but I guess this is what you get when you do this kind of swap.

here is an actual pic.. a bit difficult to see since the wheel is on the truck in this photo.. but if you look carefully you can see that the pads stick out over the edges of the rotor, they don't line up perfectly along the arc of the rotor. My question is that normal?

Monster Chevy calipers with smallish Toyota rotors your gonna come up short! Rear brakes only do 20% of the braking!

Yeah I get that, but I have read that others use larger rotors from a Chevy truck too, so trying figure out if the pads hanging past the rotors is normal or would it be fixed with the correct rotor?

Yes, bigger rotors would fix that! With the 2nd pic you got 1-1.5 inchs to get your tire/rim over the caliper! You only got so much room!

That's why the brackets I sell use Toyota truck IFS calipers & rotors! You can use early or newer Toyota truck parts.

Duh... I didn't even think about the caliper clearance, and I still have 15" wheels so guess i'll be keeping this setup.

Like I said this truck is new to me and just going through it to make sure everything is solid. Appreciate your help.

Something else I noticed on this writeup...

Those Cadillac calipers have the banjo fitting on the topside of the caliper, the others seem to have them on the bottom side. The ones on my rig have them on the bottom and I think they hang to low and are in danger of rock bashing.

Going to be swapping out for the Cadillac ones and rerouting my brake line on top of the axle out of the way!
