radiator overheating problem
my radiator is just fine. untill i drive in very hot weather such as a hot summers day or to the sand dunes. Replaced thermostat, flushed radiator, and put in new coolant last summer but then it happened again this summer but this time i was 150 miles away from home. what is going wrong and how to prevent it. thank you.

Have you checked your clutch fan? When the motor is hot pop the hood and watch the fan when you turn off the motor. If it freewheels for several seconds then it is not locking up and therefore not drawing in enough cool air.

You never stated what is wrong with it. Does it overheat your engine? Does the engine feel sluggish? Be more specific so that we can help you out better.

Your radiator may be partially clogged, not allowing water to flow through adequately. I have experienced that once on my 77 corolla I used to have. I had mine backflushed and it helped, but a new radiator would be better.

Assuming your problem is overheating and that it is happening in hot weatehr (inferring from your vague post), then a new, 3-row radiator is your answer:
- http://www.4crawler.com/4Runner.shtml That fixed my '85 4Runner overheating problems, would do so any time the outside temps were 80 or above and driving at speeds > 65 or up steep grades at high RPM > 3500. |
