radiator overheating problem
 

my radiator is just fine. untill i drive in very hot weather such as a hot summers day or to the sand dunes. Replaced thermostat, flushed radiator, and put in new coolant last summer but then it happened again this summer but this time i was 150 miles away from home. what is going wrong and how to prevent it. thank you.

Have you checked your clutch fan? When the motor is hot pop the hood and watch the fan when you turn off the motor. If it freewheels for several seconds then it is not locking up and therefore not drawing in enough cool air.

You never stated what is wrong with it. Does it overheat your engine? Does the engine feel sluggish? Be more specific so that we can help you out better.

Your radiator may be partially clogged, not allowing water to flow through adequately. I have experienced that once on my 77 corolla I used to have. I had mine backflushed and it helped, but a new radiator would be better.

I agree. A new radiator will ensure that you have no clogs, unless it was remanufactured using an old core(s).

That fixed my '85 4Runner overheating problems, would do so any time the outside temps were 80 or above and driving at speeds > 65 or up steep grades at high RPM > 3500.

is the 3 core radiator the one from newer toyota pickup trucks? if they are i have heard about them and im planning on buying one.

radiatorbarn.com is a good source for three row radiators.

The 22RE turbos used them, they are a direct swap, that is what I run in my '85. V6 rads. are also 3-row, but the hoses may be a little different and the fan shroud bolt holes are different as well.
