quick and cheap 6.5" speaker enclosure first gen 4runner door panel

I wanted some better sound in the front to replace those crappy 4" dash mounts, so I went to the electronics store and bought two sony 6.5" speakers on sale for $20.00 then went to the hardware store and found these 6" black plastic drain grid covers for $4.00. The 6.5" speakers mounted perfectly in the drain cover, and I flush mounted it to the bottom of the door panel with some tiny self drilling screws. mounted the speakers in the open end of the drain cover then ran the speaker wire through the rubber grommets in the door jam and spliced them to the dash mount wiring. No Fabrication, just a few small self drilling screws!! I didn't want to have to cut spacers or worry about my window not rolling all the way down. The whole thing cost me a little over $26.00 after taxes, and the sound is way better than those 4" dash mounts! For the drivers side I didn't really use the little door pocket so I removed it, which was just screwed to the panel from the back. Here is some pics and a link to the same exact drain cover I used. I didn't like the plastic open sony grills and I had the blaupunkt mesh grills from some old speakers.

On the SR5 that is where the map pockets are, so, you would have to cut off the door panel.

I didn't want a big hole in my door after searching the forums other people had problems with the window getting in the way. this way left a smaller footprint vrs a 6" hole in my door.

Not a bad idea in the toolbox! I have a 15ft fishing boat, and I'm thinking about putting some marine speakers on the back of the fiberglass seat mounts, so I can have some tunes when the fish stop bitin!
