question about the fan on a 22re

My 4runner started overheating and i was looking around the engine and knoticed the belt for the alt. was gone, it looks like it also goes to the pully on the fan, my question is when the fan is spinning is it turning gears/impeller in the water pump?? I hope the new belt will fix it, thanks for the help

Timing plate? What do you mean? You shouldn't have to take anything off except the two belt in front of it.

Take off the a/c and power steering belts, slide them over the fan, slide the new alt. belt over the fan and onto the pulley and alt. Then, replace the other two belts.

check to make sure where the belt goes...that may go between. Seems like quite a pain to make it so it has to come off to change a belt...

You dont need to take off that "timing plate" the belt dosent touch it or anything, it just sits in between the gaps, if that makes sense.

^^^Yep ^^^ The belt does not go underneath the "timing plate." The belt only contacts the bottom side of the crank pulley.
