put engine bak together after sitting for a year

ok i am new to this posting stuff so please bare with me, i have 2 problems it seems one the truck just cranks it wont start i checked all the injectors its getting gas, i also jumpered the diagnostic and it said that the igniter wasntiming t gettn signal to my ecu i replaced it and still nothing could my timing be off i pulled the distributor cap off and it was pointing to number 4 coil not number 1, do i need to reset the timing by setting crank shaft to zero and reinstalling ditributor? now second problem the ground wire coming out of harness to alternator that is connectd to the pulley bracket on engine is burning up when i try to start the truck, when i disconnect the wire the starter only clicks but doesnt turn over what do i need to do fix these problems? all answers and help will be appreciated thank

ok yota techs i have not had time to work on this truck until today. i seem to be getting somewhere the truck is back firing now when i try to start it i get about 2 or 3 back fires any insight thanks

There a little punctuation thing called a PERIOD. Use it & your posts will be much easier to understand.

I think the distributor rotor should be pointing to 11 o'clock when at TDC (?)...

If the ground wire is that hot, sounds like an unfused short somewhere.

If you replaced the ignitor, it sounds like the problem might be in the wiring harness....?

Which engine are we talking about here??

I guess plug wires on the wrong plugs or distributor off a tooth or more.

Hard to guess given it's been apart for a year & we don't know if you put it back together correctly~

#1 Cylinder at TDC(Top dead center) Distributor rotor should be pointing at #1 cyldiner on the Distributor cap and both valves should be closed.

Firing order is 1-3-4-2

Spark coming directly from coil? If not then thats your trouble area.

Fuses?
