Pulling a 3.0

I need to do some work on my 3.0, replace seals do the valves, new clutch. Is it a good idea to pull of the intake before it is pulled? What else removed while it is in the engine compartment makes the job go easier?

Nah you could leave the intake on. Just take everything off the front of the motor and fan shroud and you have enough room easily to pull it. Make sure when ya unbolt the a/c compressor to strap it up out of the way so the motor doesn't hang up on it when you are moving things forward. Unbolt the exhaust from the drivers side and let er' rip!

Take the intake off. you will need to do this anyway to get the harness loose from the engine.

If you were just taking the engine out I would say to disconnect the wiring harness form the computer.

Is he referring to the plenum or WHOLe intake? If so I misread it...yes take the plenum off to disconnect the harness and drape it over the front of the truck

Whats the plenum?

the lower plentum (the thing right below the yellow part above) is at the centerline of the motor. I made a jig out of angle iron to bolt to the top to lift the motor with. allows you to use a engine leveler correctly to tilt the engine if your pulling it with the trans attached.

else have fun trying to get those bell houseing bolts off!

jjenks0 03-13-2006 01:49 PM

sounds fun. what size are bolts holding the angle iron on?

I need to put in a new clutch and shifter bushing so I reckon I will pull it all at once.
