Power steering question...sorta...

Does anyone know if any 1st generation 4Runners (or any other Toyota pickups w/ 22RE from around the same era...) came equipped WITHOUT power steering?

I've got an '87 DLX that I'm scrapping ('retiring' through the state of CA) and an '86 SR5 that I'm keeping. I'd like to keep the power steering pump and apparatus off the '87, but need to drive the truck to the boneyard to scrap it and get $$ from the state. So...I need to pick up a belt that would work for the 10 mile drive to the boneyard w/o having to run around the power steering.

Any suggestions? Any year Toyota truck recommendations to go to Autozone to ask about?

Thanks!!

what else does that belt run? I thought all the components where seperate? On my 87 pick up I have one belt for power steering, 1 for alternator and water pump, and 1 for a/c (if i actually had ac) Im thinking you don't need the belt at all.

Its still going to drive without power steering. Pull the whole thing. 10 miles wont matter. I know people who have ran there vehicles 100's of miles with out it. But if you want to run it more then 50 bypass the fluid in the steering box so its just runs in circles when you steer.

a truck could have 3 belts, no?
one for crank - water pump - power steering
one for crank - water pump - alternator
one for crank - water pump - a/c

don't see any problem removing the belt for the ps pump and laboring to the yard. steering will be hard but not enoughto keep you from doing it.

but why? a $5-10 belt for what?

Yup...I'm an idiot...the power steering was on it's own belt w/ the crank...duh...

One more question - there are two vacuum hoses going into the top of the power steering pump - when I pull the pump, what should i do w/ these hoses so the truck still runs? Should I connect them to each other, or ??

Thanks!

bump on the vacuum question...thanks!
