Power problem with my 94 v6 3.0l
Ok guys I am having a power problem with my truck. I have a 94 3.0 V6 4x4 with 141K on it.
Now here is what I have done
Ok so when i get in and start it when it's cold it will die if I don't give it some gas and keep the rpm at at least 1k RPM when I put it in gear it has no power and gas milage is horible, I'm getting about 12mpg. Ok now when the engine warms up it has more power and better acceleration. Ok i also bought a check engine light reader and it comes up with code 71 = egr system. I know my truck has an engine can you help me find it please?
Oh ya the engine idles at 500RPM when it's cold. I never used to do that, it would idle at 1500RPM when it was cold. HELP!!
Now here is what I have done
- new spake plugs
- new wires
- new cat
- new mass air flow sensor
- new EGR manifold
- new O2 sensor
- new filters for air, oil and fuel

Not too sure about this but here goes... with that many ks on it its coming due for the timing belt to be replaced has this been done? You might also have a clogged fuel filter and or leaky lines. You might also check the vaccum lines. Maybe get the stealer to check the error codes? Might be a brain box problem too. has the headgasket recall been done yet?

ok the timing belt was replaced at 65k or more the fuel filter is brand new. No fuel leaks I had the stealer check for that. All EGR vacume lines either checked or replaced and the headgasket was replaced.
I have a check engine light reader and it is comeing up with code 71 egr system. So I am not sure what to do.

Your idle should be about 750 to 800rpms when engine is warm. it is very easy to adjust. check the tech section for instructions.

The fact that your engine does not idle up when cold tells me that something is wrong with a VSV somehwere or that your temp sender for the ECU is bad....
Jump the plugs underhood to put the ECU in diagnostic mode...with the key set to on in the ignition the CEL will flash out a pattern. What is that pattern?

if you are getting code 71, try pluging the vacuum line that comes from the top of the egr valve...i was getting this code with the same symptoms as you and that fixed it

I'm guessing TPS or something is unplugged, sounds a bit like the AFM isn't plugged in.
Your very first step should be to check for codes. If you have an electrical component malfunction or dissconnect the computer will have picked up and error code which will save you a lot of 'replace this, replace that' time and money.
Also look for severe vacuum leaks

Ok so yesterday I took my egr apart and it was nasty inside my engine. I had a black resadue built up inside the intake where the egr connects to the block. I took out the piece that goes inside the block (it's about 6in long and has two hole at the end of it) and fab'ed a medal piece to cover the hole and seal it up. It sounds better, feels better and I hope gets better gas millage.
