Post Head gasket job, now scraching my head
All went well with replacing the head gaskets, engine in all back together. I am attempting to get it running, and it turns over strongly then acts like the battery is dead. Next attempt I hear just the starter "click" wait a few minutes( like battery rebuiding) and it will spin good and then stop. The battery has tested good, and was replaced. I am wondering if the wiring harness has is grounded or has a dead short, any suggestions?

Not a lot of things related to a HG change that would effect your starter. I did have this issue after changing my HG. The starter turned over and the truck ran, I stopped and tried to start again. The started engaged then stopped. Subsequent attempts just got me a click. I checked the ground connections, checked the battery cables and was stumped. My starter had chosen that odd moment to fail. Don't overlook the obvious? I checked the voltages to the solenoid and the starter motor. I pulled the starter (a pain). Hit it directly with the battery. Click and nothing. Replaced the starter and that was it. Have you done any other work other than a the headgasket? It may be nothing more than a bad starter.

Thanks Plumbrbob, after poking some more, the starter is acting very suspect. Now I believe I am looking at a timing issue. Thanks for the reply.. new to yotatech.. but I like it

I had the hood off my Isuzu Pickup the first time I fired up the motor I rebuilt in it, and I did the same thing and left a 1/2" drive socket and 12"breaker bar on it, and the motor started, jumped around like crazy for a second or two at 2k RPMs because of the off-balance, and then launched the freek'n breaker bar and socket about 100ft into the air and came down about a foot to the right of the truck!
scared the bejesus outta me, lol
