possible blown rod bearing
so yesterday my '86 runner (22re with an auto) developed an increasingly loud knocking noise timed with the engine revs and dies quickly as soon as i take my foot off the gas. I had a similar experience with a neon and it was a blown rod bearing. any chance this is anything less?
thanks guys

can be timing chain or valve lash off. But anything short of a video with sound is a guess.
FYI a slight rod bearing noise in my truck started only when starting the truck, at higher revs and when I would come off the gas when shifting though not go away when I come off the gas. Had this for 5,000 miles and who knows how long before that as I had just bought the truck, changing the timing chain didn't get rid of it and spun the #4 rod bearing.

probably broken timing chain guides and your getting chain slap, as soon as you let off the slack is taken out on that side on wind down and it goes away, check that first easier to fix than a spun rod and usually a spun rod will knock on decel too

knocking sounds can be deceiving, if maybe your knock has a low growl to it it very well could be u joints or incorrect pinion preload.I almost replaced my whole bottom end once a long time ago before an old timer brought this to my attention. What i had thought was a couple of bad rod bearings or excessive endplay was only ujoints.
