Please Help, New Engine Install Oil Pouring Out
Need Help. I swapped my spent 22r for a new 22r with Street RV head on my 86 4x4 ext cab but when I crank the newly installed engine, oil pours out the back at the bell housing. I would estimate oil flow rate out of the truck onto the ground at 1qt every 5 seconds. Oil does not leak when the engine is off, only when it is cranking. What in the world could cause this? There is a rear main installed and it looked great when the engine went in. All help is very much appreciated!

rear main seal would leak from bottom of bell housing. The top of the bell would either be the half moon seal or the plate on the back of the head.

Bad Rear Main?
That was my first (grumpy) thought when I saw the oil pouring out, but I have never heard of a bad rear main straight from the engine shop. Is there [I]any[I] other option??:think:

Yep, motion carried. They left out the rear main.

see that hole to the right of the rear main? that is the main oil galley, there is supposed to be a pipe plug in it...

No Kidding! No surprise what my day is looking like-- separating the tranny from the motor and installing that galley plug off the old block (thank goodness I hadn't turned it in yet!).:bang:
What is the best (read: easiest) way to separate the tranny from the block? Looks like 4 12s holding the front driveshaft, slide the shaft to the side, unbolt the bell and let 'er rest on the torsion bar? Is that even a good idea? My wife is gonna love this on Mother's Day-- hope she likes the brisket I've been all night cooking. |
