Pics of 33's, spacers, clearance, etc...

I have two third members being regeared for 5.71's and I figured I'd pick up some 33's. Well it turns out those oh so controversial 33X10.5's are on back order for a minimum of 6 weeks. Conspiracy!!! BFG has a 2000 count back order with none being currently produced. This vexed me. I decided to get the 12.5's, now I can float on the sand.

Well guess what, they fit Ok. I'm going max out the caster and trim a little but they are close to clearing. I was expecting much more potential for interference.

BTW, for those who are afraid of steering issues with these tires. I ran 33X12.5's for over 7 years with zero steering failures and was with bj spacers. I did have the Downey Idler arm brace. This is because I did not have a front locker, I had a Truetrac limited slip. Now I have an open diff so I'm not too worried about it.

Clearance...

Hopefully this can help people to see what 33's on stock wheels will look like and what they will need to do to take care of clearance issues.

Frank

Whats the chances of you uploading those onto Photobucket then pasting the IMG code here? Those pics are too big. I have to scroll down then across to see anything.

I'll just resize them. That's one of my beefs with this site, unlike others it doesn't scale pics automatically.

I know. But it's all good. As Superstition 10 I actually really could have used the larger contact patch. Climbing steep sand hills is a pain with skinny tires.

I have a 1" body lift (4crawler) waiting to be installed so I will do that although the clearance issues are rather minor. The 10.5's would have easily fit.

I have thought about that. I have the ADD deal and I admit, I like it. Of course when it doesn't engage I might feel differently.

The clearance pics are the same shot different angles after the tires were installed so that makes sense.

They are of the tire turned at full lock.

looks awesome! did the shop have any issues about mounting 12.5 wide tyres on the skinny stocker rims?

Well they mentioned that my "six inch" rims were too narrow. I reminded them (Discount Tire) that I have 7" rims and they will likely never be damaged with these tires on them. They went for it. I have their full warranty so it's good. Nevertheless, the tires seem to be fine on these rims. Time will tell if they wear oddly.

Could you load a pic or two of your rig at this angle, I'd like to see how they look compared to a 10.5 rim. I have a stock set of rims and 4 spare 33x12.5x15's i've been debating on mounting while mine are being powder coated.

Actually, those clearance pictures are at full lock. There is about .5" of interference. I can turn lock to lock right now with no issues. If I compress about 2-3" I will rub.

So, I think clearing these will actually be very easy. I was expecting a much more severe interference.

Well, that assumes they pick up production enough to satisfy existing orders and fill future ones. Another bummer is the price is going up. Oil is a key ingredient in rubber and influences the prices from a host of other angles.

I'm going to see exactly what I have to do to clear these and will post up more pics.

I fixed the picture links. Now I see why they all looked so similar...

i was warned about running the 12.'s on my 7" rims and potential problems so am kinda weary about it. I'm thinking they were worried it would pop the tire off the bead at lower air pressures mainly.
