People who have had someone re-gear your diffs...

Considering that I dont have the gears and the diffs were in good shape, how much should I expect to pay to have the local 4WD shop regear my diffs if I take them out and give them to the shop? Any input would be helpful because I am trying to decide whether or not to buy a set of used 4.56 diffs or have mine regeared.

Thanks

Andy

All I can tell you is VERY expensive ($1500 maybe?). Instead, I picked up my 4.88 geared diffs for under 500 bucks from a junkyard - plus you can sell your old ones for a few bucks. Unless its a size toyota didn't offer from the factory (5.10s+?) I would spend the time finding some used diffs if possible.

Just labor, if you take them off the truck? I'm thinking about $150-$200 per axle around here anyway.

I found a local guy here that installed my ARB locker and changed my gearing in the front for about $300 labor and I just drove it in to him. I was lucky to find Shane.

The higher the gear ratio the more important is it to have a really good installer because there is less room for error. This site is great with gear info: http://www.gearinstalls.com/

Also if you are going to be doing gearing and are ever considering a locker -now is the time to do it! (Saves time and money!)

x2

Also, the labor for installing new gears and installing a locker are basically the same (actually a little less because you don't have to take the old gears off the carrier) so, you can save a bunch of money doing a locker at the same time! You might have to wait and save up some more money before regearing, but it'll be worth it!
