Ok..so I've got my coolant leak, and it's driving me insane. I'll try to explain this as best I can, and show a couple pics as well. I would GREATLY appreciate it if anyone could give me any info as to what part I need to replace here.

Here goes: The throttle body has two coolant hoses underneath it. The one in the front (radiator side) was just replaced by me because I thought the hose itself was leaking. It turned out that the nipple that the hose connects to was leaking. Not the one on the throttle body - but the one sticking straight UP from the engine.

If that made any sense.. here are some pics for reference. First of all.. I'm almost sure I circled the correct hose, but please correct me if the hose circled in BLACK is NOT the hose coming out from the throttle body towards the radiator. If it is.. when this hose bends downward.. what is the part that it connects to. That part has a nipple sticking up and the hose slides over it. That nipple is leaking and from where I can see it coming out from.. it looks like the entire thing needs to get replaced.

dont know about replacing the nipple, but it is attached to the lower intake. my leak was a clogged hose there so didnt have to sweat it.

Thanks, phenob. I got the hose done just fine - I just am having a helluva time even finding out what that hose connects to.

Does anyone even know a good resource to find out or ask what this part is?

as a last resort id just JB weld it.. just my 2 cents....

I actually was working with my throttle body today.
The part you are talking about routes engine coolant through the throttle body to warm up the fuel air charge fro better combustion.
To remove
4 12mm bolts, and 3 or 4 vacuum lines [remember where they go], intake hose, and the throttle cable.
If I were you I would just find a replacement hose from your local auto parts store and replace it 3/8 ID roughly.

well if it is not the rubber hose then I would jb weld it
I thought you were talking about the rubber hose in which case i do not think that the jb would work.
I guess u miss undersood you there bud

Yeah, thanks for the suggestions guys.. But the hose is just fine. The nipple that it connects to is leaking. Any idea what that is???

Like he said, it routes coolant thru the throttle body to detect when the engine is sufficiently warmed up. There's a sensor in there somewhere that goes to the ECU which adjusts fuel mixture to coincide with the warmed engine. The nipple I BELIEVE is part of the intake manifold.

How did you damage that??? It is fairly protected where it is located.
Like rabbit said I believe that it is in fact part of the intake it self although I could be mistaken haven't had my intake off in a while.

are you talking about the nipple that is threaded on one end and comes up from the intake manifold then into the throttle body? cause they are easy to overtighten or crossthread/strip. I would pull the nipple piece as you call it and inspect the threads on it and the hole it goes in, if they are good then get some teflon tape for plumbing and wrap the threads a few times and reinstall it. this will insure a good tight seal. also check for cracks in the entire "nipple" if it is cracked replace it it should be fairly cheap. be careful when tightening it down as they are sometimes made of brass and it is easy to overtighten and strip the threads causing a poor seal. handtight plus 1/4 or 1/2 turn should be fine. good luck.

Hmmm.. I don't think it's the same one you're thinking about js9924. It sounds more like the one that is part of the intake manifold. The pics I have above show where it is leaking. I took the first couple zoomed out to give a reference point. The last one is the best pic of the coolant actually leaking. I drew an arrow and right at the point of that arrow is where it is flowing out of.

Here's a picture with the intake manifold off. The FSM seems to just call it a union connection, which the #4 water bypass hose connects to.

Wow! Thanks.. that helps a LOT. Looks like the manifold needs to come off to replace it.. but at least I know it can be replaced now. I think I'll talk to a mechanic or possibly the stealership to see if they can figure out what part # this "union" is.

P.S. is that "union" just threaded in there.. can the entire part be removed or is it permanently attached?

If it can be removed I might try it and see if it can be rebuilt too. I'm leaking from where the long, thin tube leaves the base. I'm wondering if there is some kind of sealant/o-ring inside that union piece.

Looks like it is just threaded in there so I have a hard time believeing that it can't come out as a separate small piece.

Excellent. I don't have a lot of time to take things apart, find the problem, put it back together and then take things back apart to fix it. I need my truck every day and don't have too much time to work on it.. so you just saved me a LOT of time and money. I really appreciate your help.

No problem. I saw that people had a hard time figuring out what this was, and since I have the engine sitting without the intake on right now I could just go out and snap a picture.
