Part # for oil seal behind hub on '93 4R

Hey guys,

I'm doing some front end work on my newly acquired '93 4Runner, and I need a part number to help the parts guys at my local Toyota Dealer.

I pulled both hubs and rotors off the front end yesterday, and discovered that the oil seals behind the hubs (the seals that are bolted to the dust covers on the steering knuckles) are damaged, so I want to replace them. [See oil seal circled in red on this picture.]

I called the Toyota dealer, and explained what I needed. The parts guy searched for a while, but wasn't having any luck finding it. He finally found what he thinks is the right part, but he wasn't sure. They didn't have any in stock, so he couldn't check to see what it looked like without ordering them in. The problem is, he quoted me $55 for that seal (the one he thinks is the right one) and I need two of them. I checked many of the auto parts stores around, and nobody carries those particular seals.

I guess if I have to pay that much, I will, but it seems like a rediculously high price for such a simple part.

For those of you that have replaced these seals, how much have you paid for them? If somebody has a parts list for a '93 4R, or works at a delearship, or has replaced these seals before, could you please provide me with a part number so that I can verify it with the parts department at the dealer?

I guess my last resort will be take a drive down to the dealership with the picture to see if I can help them find it... but a part number will make it so much easier.

Thanks.

I have a printout from the dealer showing that part you questioning. on the printout there is reference # 43511J (RH) and 43511K (LH). Ask the guy at the dealership you were quoted to check his blowout pics for that seal.

hope this helps...

Thanks. I'll get them to search those numbers to see what they come up with... but those are reference numbers you say, and not actual part numbers, right? Toyota's part numbers are typically "five digits" dash "five digits".

Thanks again.

correct. thats what the guy at the dealership told me. but i'm guessing all dealerships look at the same data provided by the toyota corp. so he should be able to see those reference numbers. Just so you know, in his picture the steering knuckle is shown but not the dust cover. that may help clear the air a bit.

Thanks Cilo... You've been very helpful. Last question:

The parts guy was able to find the part on the picture, but he said that it looked like that part included:

1. The oil seal (metal ring approx 6 inches in diameter with rubber seal glued onto it - the one that's circled in the link on my first post) and...

2. The metal dust cover (metal shield approx 14 inches in diameter) that the oil seal bolts onto.

He said that if it was, I'd have to buy both because there was no breakdown of that part number into subcomponents. The price for that part number is indeed $55 CAD for each side like they quoted me the first time.

Do you remember if the part number was indeed both items above? Do you have an electronic version of the printout that the dealership gave you that you could post up? Thanks again.

No, its just the seal. I had bought it last week thinking I would need it when doing the spindle bushing mod but it was in good condition so i didnt replace it. As for price, that sounds about right. It cost me $45 us. Boy was I happy to return it.
